Roomba vs Eufy Comparison Review
Eufy is an up-and-coming brand that has risen to the ranks and now brushes shoulders with the likes of Roomba and Neato Robotics.
But you understand that the Roomba doesn’t go down easily, and over the years, it has shaken off any serious competition.
Neato has been a brand that has really tried to keep up with Roomba, but sadly, the D7 Connected wasn’t able to beat Roomba 980 in a comparison review and test we did.
Back to the business of the day, Roomba vs. Eufy, what’s the best brand?
In this comparison review, we sampled some of the popular models from each brand and compared the top features that set them apart, as well as the similarities.
So, without further ado, let’s get to business.
Table of Contents
iRobot Roomba
However, there’s one thing that has always put off homeowners; the high price tags.
The high-end models like Roomba 980 and i7+ cost almost $1000. That’s really way up high and in the long run; it wouldn’t be fair to compare them with the likes of Eufy which cost much less.
For that reason, we chose the mid-range Roombas because at least, they are in the range of Eufy’s budget wise. So, what is the best affordable Roombas right now?
Here are the Roomba models that we will be focusing on in this review;
Roomba 690 – a Cheap Roomba with Smart Features
Roomba 690 came to replace the Roomba 650, and the significant addition is the Smart features. Roomba 650 doesn’t come with Wi-Fi, but Roomba 690 does and supports Smartphone operation, Alexa, and other integrations.
When it comes to cleaning, I recommend it for small to medium apartments with less furniture.
On hardwood, tile, and linoleum it works perfectly.
On carpets, there is a different performance with low pile carpet not being a problem to vacuum, but for the medium and high pile, it’s just not the right vacuum because of the low suction power.
Also, when it comes to pets, it’s not the best again for two reasons; it lacks true HEPA filters and second, the brush is prone to tangling.
verdictFor the price and Smart features, it is still an option if you want a cheap Roomba.
Roomba 890 Ideal for Pet Hair
But one of the factors that make it stand out is the affordability. The Roomba 890 blends the old features and select features from the 900 series.
Unfortunately, with the coming of the Roomba E5, its dominance is also set to plunge.
In the Roomba 800 Series, iRobot fixed the major challenges the older Roombas had.
First, this model has true HEPA filters and a tangle-free brush making it an excellent option for pet owners.
Also, it has a little bit more vacuum power so low to medium pile carpets can be thoroughly vacuumed.
Another addition is the new Dirt Detect Series II that the Roomba 960 and 980, as well as i7+, have.
But on the downside, the Roomba 890 is not so intelligent as time, and again, you will find it stuck.
Also, it has a short runtime, and unfortunately, it doesn’t resume cleaning after recharging.
Roomba 675 – a New Model from iRobot
It boasts most of the features the Roomba 690 has except for the aesthetics.
The price is also in the same region as Roomba 690, and that’s the reason it made it in this review today.
Just like Roomba 690, the Roomba 675 is ideal for hard floors and low-medium pile carpets.
Regarding the high pile carpets and rugs, it won’t give you the best performance because of the average suction power.
Also, the bristle brush will get tangled by long pet hair and actually, it is less durable than the rubber extractors that the AeroForce Roombas use.
verdictA good side, you get Wi-Fi and Alexa compatibility and a significantly reduced price. If you want a really cheap Roomba, this is your match!
Eufy Robovac
In fact, there are some cheap Eufy vacuums with better performance than their Roomba counterparts in the same budget. That is the core business of the day, so we will not dig deeper now.
One thing you will notice is that the high-end Eufy Robovac models match the prices of the mid-range Roombas.
That’s why in this comparison review, we have the best Eufy robot vacuums on one side while on the other hand, there’s the mid-level Roombas and not the best Roombas as expected.
Here are the Eufy Robovac models that we have challenged the Roombas with;
Eufy Robovac 11+ 2nd Gen with [BoostIQ] Cleans Hard Floors to Medium-Pile Carpets
Eufy went back to the drawing board and came up with the Robovac 11+ that comes with BoostIQ technology.
This robot vacuum has a powerful motor that delivers up to 1000 Pa. Besides that, it has a 100 minutes runtime making it great for large apartments.
You can trust this robot vacuum if you have hard floors, and low – medium pile carpets.
However, for pets, I like the vacuum power, but then, the filters are not true HEPA. Also, it lacks Wi-Fi which is a top priority in this Smart Home era.
verdictBut despite the flaws, it would make more sense to buy the Robovac 11+ because the difference between it and the older model is negligible, yet you get more power.
Eufy Robovac 11s Slim with [BoostIQ] Strong Suction and Super Quiet
This is a stylish, and the slimmest robot vacuum I have met. It stands at 2.85-inches and surprisingly, it has a larger bin than models like Roomba which are almost an inch taller.
One of the best features of the Robovac 11s is the high suction power. It can deliver up to 1300 Pa which is excellent for all carpet piles.
The runtime is also good considering this is an inexpensive robot vacuum cleaner that delivers superior raw power.
Just like the Robovac 11+, it has HEPA-style filters.
The runtime is quite impressive and will finish an average apartment on a single charge.
verdictIf you are on a budget and you want the best robot vacuum for carpets, this should be a top consideration.
Eufy Robovac 30 with Premium Features
But then they are quite expensive, but here’s a great solution; a cheaper Robovac 30 with 1500 Pa suction power.
The Robovac 30 is also a slim and sleek robot vacuum. It stands at 2.85-inches and also has a large 0.6L bin. The wheels are quite large and will climb even the high pile carpets and area rugs without a problem.
Thanks to the super suction, Robovac 30 will suit all your carpet and pet hair cleaning needs.
It also comes with boundary marking, but unfortunately, it uses the bulky magnetic strips while on new models like D7 Connected, you only draw the boundary on the Smartphone App.
Roomba 675 vs. 690 vs. Eufy Robovac 11+ vs. 11s
So, what’s the best option? In this section, we are going to put Roomba and Eufy in a face to face comparison, analyzing five crucial factors that we always consider when buying a robot vacuum.
1. Design
So, which robot vacuum should you go for as far as design is concerned?
Roomba 675 and 690 fail the test here because they are not as compact as Eufy. Roombas stand at over 3.6-inches high and will get stuck when going under furniture with low ground clearance.
That leaves the debate on Eufy Robovac 11+ vs. 11s. Robovac 11+ stands at 3.35 inches whereas the Robovac 11s (slim) is just 2.85-inches tall making it among the slimmest robot vacuums in the market.
When it comes to aesthetics, Roombas are quite stylish but then, they don’t match the sleek tempered glass finish of the Eufy robot vacuums.
Again here, the crown goes to Eufy Robovac, especially the Robovac 11s.
2. Cleaning performance
So, what’s the best option?
Roomba and Eufy robot vacuum cleaners are all advertised as best for floors, carpets, and pet hair. But is this the case?
Well, both brands are ideal for hardwood floors and all other bare floors.
When it comes to carpets, Eufy Robovac 11+ and 11s (Slim) carry the day courtesy of the high suction power respectively.
Lastly on pet hair and allergens, Eufy emerges the winner again because of the high suction power that makes sure no hair or kitty litter is left behind, even on carpets.
Roombas are also good in pickup of pet hair, but they get tangled often.
Regarding allergens, no vacuum in this comparison is the best because they all lack true-HEPA filters.
The first fundamental that explains the difference in cleaning performance is the vacuum power. Eufy beats Roomba here because of the newer motor it uses in the Robovac 11+ and Robovac 11s (Slim).
On the other hand, Roomba 675 and 690 do a mere 550 – 600 Pa.
When it comes to the brush system, the two brands use the same approach with just a few differences.
Roomba 675 and 690 come with a dual multisurface brush system whereby one brush is for agitation, and the other one facilitates pick up of dirt. There’s also an included side brush.
On the other hand, Eufy Robovac 11s and 11+ come with an improved wider rotating brush and doesn’t tangle like Roomba’s.
For both brands, a side brush has been included, and the function is to sweep the paths of the vacuum.
Then we come to the filters, and if you have pets and allergies, this is a very crucial aspect.
Unfortunately, for these models, there is none that comes with true HEPA filters. Roomba uses Aerovac filtration system that is 85% – 90% efficient. This is the same case for Robovac 11+ and 11 Slim.
One of the areas Roombas beat Eufy is regarding dirt detection technology. Roomba 675 and 690 come with inbuilt Dirt Detect which works by finding where there is concentrated dirt and then switches to Spot mode. This is a unique feature that no other brand has been able to replicate.
One last feature to look at is the bin size.
You understand that robot vacuums need manual bin emptying so getting one with the largest bin is always advantageous.
Again here, Eufy outshines Roomba despite having a compact design. While Roomba 675 and 690 have a 0.3L bin, Eufy comes with 0.55L bins.
3. Autonomy
Now, having looked at the cleaning features and performance, it’s time we consider the autonomy of Roomba and Eufy.
Here, we are going to review the battery and schedule function.
To start, both Roomba and Eufy come with Li-Ion batteries.
However, the runtime is quite different with Eufy leading the pack with 100 minutes average runtime.
On the other hand, Roomba 690 and 675 have a 60-minute average runtime.
Here, I highly recommend Eufy Robovac 11+ and Robovac 11 Slim especially if you have a large apartment.
Regarding power management, they all recharge automatically but none will resume cleaning thereafter, and that’s why it is critical to buy a vacuum with longer runtime, i.e., Eufy Robovac 11s and 11+.
There is also the schedule function that enables homeowners to set their preferred cleaning times. When the set time reaches, the vacuum will automatically leave the dock and start cleaning. Both Roomba and Eufy have this feature.
4. Navigation & Maneuvering
When it comes to navigation, Roomba’s iAdapt 1,0 is far much better than Eufy’s Smart sensors. Even though none of them is recommended for high traffic rooms, at least iAdapt is more accurate, especially in the new Roomba 675.
Eufy does well but then; it makes somewhat poor decisions especially when turning and from time to time, it will hit obstacles.
When it comes to floor mapping, Roomba is also ahead, but that is not to say the two 600 series Roombas are the best. We have very intelligent Roombas only that our budget restricts us to iAdapt 1.0 floor mapping.
On the other hand, Eufy uses Smart floor mapping which is also not that intelligent.
Boundary marking is also proving to be an invaluable addition to any robot vacuum.
Unfortunately, Eufy Robovac 11s and 11+ lack any form of boundary marking. On the other hand, Roomba 675 and 690 are compatible with Virtual Walls.
Lastly, regarding maneuverability, I am glad Eufy has quite some large offroad wheels that seamlessly transition from carpets to the bare floor and vice versa without any problem.
Roomba 690 and 675 also have large wheels, but they can’t match Eufy.
5. Smart features
In this Smart Home age, everyone wants a connected device and robot vacuums are among the many Smart appliances you can own.
Here, Roomba outshines Eufy now that the Roomba 675 and 690 have Wi-Fi whereas Eufy 11+ and 11s Slim lack Wi-Fi. That means you can control Roomba remotely from the Smartphone App or via Alexa.
On the other hand, Eufy offers a remote controller which is okay but leaves a lot to be desired.
Winner: Roomba 675 vs. 690 vs. Eufy Robovac 11+ vs. 11s
There you have it, a comparison of budget Roomba and Eufy robot vacuums. As we have seen, each brand has advantages as well as disadvantages. In case you might be stuck on what brand or model to chose, here is a summary of the main highlights.
Roomba 690 is a great robot vacuum cleaner that offers Smart operation. It is suitable for hardwood floors, and maybe pet hair pick up, but on carpets, it greatly disappoints. Buy it only if you have a low pile carpet and bare floors.
Roomba 675 is a pretty newer model that boasts most of the features in the Roomba 690. The advantage of this robot vacuum cleaner is that its software is updated, so it is a little bit more efficient than Roomba 690. But still, you can’t rely on it to clean carpets, save for the low pile carpets and rugs.
Eufy Robovac 11+ is the best option if you are looking for a budget robot vacuum that can clean hard floors and low to medium-pile carpets. It delivers 100 Pa suction power and has a larger dust bin so you won’t have to be emptying it now and then.
Lastly, Eufy Robovac 11s (Slim) is an excellent choice if you are looking for a budget robot vacuum for low to high pile carpets. It can deliver 1300 Pa, and besides, it boasts the slimmest design possible to allow it go under all furniture.
So, what’s the best robot vacuum between Roomba 675 vs. 690 vs. Robovac 11+ vs. Robovac 11s Slim?
I would buy the Roomba 675 because of the Smart connectivity that it offers. You can control the vacuum remotely from the Smartphone or using Alexa, unlike Robovac 11s that has a remote controller only. But then, who doesn’t want the impressive 1300 Pa vacuum power?
If you have a carpeted floor, then it is prudent to consider foregoing the Smart features and settling for the Robovac 11s Slim that has the best carpet cleaning performance. If you are still not sure which one to pick, here is a short round up.
Why buy Roomba 675
- Comes with Wi-Fi
- Unique Dirt Detect function
- Roomba has Virtual Walls
Why buy Robovac 11s
- Cheaper
- Boosted suction power, 1300 Pa
- Slimmer than Roomba
- Larger dustbin
- Longer runtime
Roomba 890 vs. Eufy Robovac 30
So, the big question we want to tackle here is, does the Roomba 890, a midrange Roomba, match up the best Eufy robot vacuum?
1. Design
One of the most significant advantages of Eufy is that they have managed to craft a sleek and slim robot vacuum without compromising on features like the bin. The Robovac, in particular, boasts a 2.85-inch height making it slim enough to fit under tight spaces. Compared to the Roomba’s 3.6-inches height, the Robovac 30 is just something out of this world.
When it comes to aesthetics, the Roomba 890 is just the old looking round vacuum. There is no much difference from it to the Roomba 675 and 690. When it comes to Robovac 30, it has been finished with an anti-scratch tempered glass material that makes it very attractive. In fact, pets will love to ride on it as they see their reflection.
2. Cleaning performance
Remember, we have robot vacuums for hard floors, carpets, pet hair, allergens and so on. So, what do Roomba 890 and Robovac 300 have in stock for us?
Roomba 890 has been marketed as the best budget Roomba for hardwood floors, hard floors, carpets, and pet hair. Well, this is very true only that when it comes to heavy pile carpets, it kind of gets overwhelmed.
On the other hand, Robovac 30 is the best affordable robot vacuum for carpets. Yes, it is cheap and offers quite some thorough vacuuming on carpets including high pile.
The primary dynamic when it comes to robot vacuums and vacuum cleaners, in general, is the suction power.
One thing that makes Roomba 890 different from the other cheaper Roomba models is the 2nd Generation brushless motors. It can deliver 1000 Pa making it great for low to medium pile carpets.
But that doesn’t match Robovac 30’s powerful motor that delivers a cool 1500 Pa which matches that of expensive robot vacuums like Botvac D7 Connected and Roomba 980. It is also noticeably quieter compared to the Roomba.
Another important aspect is the brush design. Robovac 30 doesn’t have anything new, so just like the earlier models, it is bound to tangling especially if you have the long-haired breeds.
The best option here is Roomba 890 which unlike the previous Roombas, it comes with rubber extractors which are gentle on hardwood floors than the tough bristles. The main advantage, however, is the tangle free dual design of the brush making it more efficient and ideal for tackling pet hair without tangling.
Still, on pets, you need to get true HEPA filters because of their high efficiency. You understand the problem of allergies; especially those triggered by pet-related allergens.
Roomba is the best option here because it has true HEPA filters integrated into the AeroForce filtration system. On the other hand, Robovac 30 packs HEPA style filters, and even though the mechanism is high-tech, it is still not as efficient as Roomba 890.
Another area where Eufy takes down Roomba 890 is regarding the bin size. Roomba 890 is bigger and has a 0.3L bin whereas Robovac 30 is slimmer and has a 0.6L bin. Definitely, you want to buy the Robovac 30 because you will be required to empty the bin less often.
But hey, are you the forgetful type? If yes, then the full bin indicator in Roomba 890 might be something of interest to you.
Finally, we wind up this segment with the exclusive feature called Dirt Detect. As mentioned earlier, it enables the vacuum to find where there is concentrated dirt. Roomba 890m is even better than the previous models as it comes with Dirt Detect Series II. The Robovac 30 greatly misses out on this feature.
3. Autonomy
Now here, we want to find out which robot vacuum cleaner between Roomba 890 vs. Robovac 30 offers the best autonomy. This is with regards to the runtime and schedule function.
Just like all robot vacuum cleaners, Roomba 890 and Eufy Robovac 30 come with the schedule function. It allows homeowners to set the preferred cleaning times throughout the week.
Unfortunately, you can only schedule one cleaning session per day. The difference between the Robovac 30 and Roomba 890 is perhaps where you set the schedule function.
Besides the interface, Roomba has a Smartphone App while Robovac 30 relies on the remote.
Now, what about the runtime? Well, Eufy carries the day here because of the 100 minutes average runtime. It has been built with a powerful lithium-ion battery and an efficient motor. On the other hand, Roomba 890 does an average of 75 minutes.
Bearing in mind that none of them resumes cleaning after recharging, it is better to buy the Eufy Robovac 30 if you have a large apartment.
4. Navigation & Maneuvering
Now, how does Roomba 890 compare to Eufy Robovac 30 when it comes to navigation and maneuverability? We will look at several factors, from the navigation technology to the wheel size.
Roomba 890 comes with iAdapt 1.0 which is not that efficient compared to the likes of Roomba 980 and i7+. But at least the software is upgraded so it won’t get stuck as often as the Roomba 675 and 690. On the other hand, Robovac 30 has Smart sensors that are quite accurate and precise than the Robovac 11+ and 11s Slim.
When it comes to floor mapping, Roomba uses iAdapt floor mapping which is quite intelligent, but still random. It doesn’t follow any systematic pattern, but at least it is not as random as the cheaper models. On the other hand, Robovac is quite systematic but not fully methodical.
When it comes to boundary marking, Roomba 890 comes with Virtual Walls just like all Roombas. This technology uses invisible laser beams to mark boundaries. On the other hand, Eufy included physical boundary markers win the Robovac 30. While it may be just as effective as Virtual Walls, it is less convenient considering the bulkiness of the markers and the set up required.
Lastly, on maneuverability, you get large offroad wheels with both models. This makes the transition from carpets to bare floors and vice-versa very easy.
5. Smart features
Roomba 890 outshines Robovac here by far, and that’s among the reasons that keep Roomba dominant over the super suction Robovac delivers. On the other hand, Robovac 30 can only boast the remote controller, perfect for the senior citizens who don’t want anything to do with the Internet.
Winner: Roomba 890 vs. Eufy Robovac 30
Now, having compared the two robot vacuums, it’s time you decide which one will you go with. But again, we understand that you may still be torn in between the two so to help you out, here’s the summary.
Roomba 890 is a great robot vacuum that blends some of the best technologies from the Roomba 900 series, and the price is really affordable. It costs around $400 and delivers the same vacuum power as Roomba 960.
For allergy sufferers, this is the best option because of the true HEPA filters it comes with. The Virtual Walls and Dirt Detect also give it the edge when compared to Eufy that lacks these two features.
On the other hand, Robovac 30 has been designed for deep carpet cleaning. It delivers an exceptional 1500 Pa matching the performance of expensive robot vacuums like D7 Connected and Roomba 980. Besides vacuum power, there are several other areas that it beast the Roomba at including dust bin capacity, design, and runtime. Above all, it is cheaper than Roomba and offers better value for money.
Why buy Roomba 890
- Comes with Wi-Fi
- Unique Dirt Detect function
- Roomba has Virtual Walls
- True HEPA filters
Why buy Robovac 30
- Cheaper
- Boosted suction power, 1300 Pa
- Slimmer than Roomba
- Larger dustbin
- Longer runtime
Cleaning Tests
We wanted to know how exactly each of the above robot vacuums performed when it comes to cleaning.
As usual, we tested them on a range of surfaces, from hardwood floors to low and high pile carpets and rugs.
We used some of the usual dirt you will encounter; cereals, rice, sugar, sand, kitty litter, flour and so on. Here are the results we observed.
Hardwood floors
For many robot vacuums, cleaning hard floors, including hardwood is a buzz. The Roomba and Eufy robot vacuums we tested exhibited excellent results as far as hardwood floor cleaning is concerned. They were all able to pick up all the dirt that came on their way with a lot of ease. However, Eufy was more unforgiving even when it came to the small dirt particles like flour that Roomba 675 and 690 seemed to struggle with.
verdictBut in general, Roomba and Eufy robot vacuums are best for hardwood floors. Perhaps your only concern will be how friendly the brush is. You understand how these tough-bristled brushes scratch the delicate hardwood floors.
Low pile carpets
Here, we started seeing signs of the Roombas being overwhelmed by Eufy.
Even though all the vacuums cleared the dirt on low pile carpet, there were clear indications that Eufy was more powerful than Roomba 675 and 690. Only the Roomba 890 seemed to match even the cheapest Eufy Robovac.
verdictAll the Eufy robot vacuums we tested cleared the dirt swiftly. The same results were witnessed in the Eufy Robovac. 890 save for the few patches of flour that it left on some spots. That means Eufy won the battle here as no flour patches remained when it was its turn to vacuum.
High pile carpets
This is where the wheat is separated from the chaff. If you read our review of the best robot vacuums for carpets, you understand that high pile requires a lot of vacuum power. Here again, Eufy was dominant over Roombas, and that’s why Eufy is termed as the hidden secret of robot vacuums.
verdictRoomba 675 and 690 performed poorly, collecting an average of 60% of the dirt we tested them with. At least Roomba 890 was a little bit more powerful, collecting almost 80% of the dirt. The real battle here is between Eufy Robovac 11s vs. Robovac 30. The Robovac 11s cleared almost all of the dirt leaving behind only some flour and kitty litter. On the other hand, Robovac 30 is a beast; it sucked almost 95% of the dirt on the heavy pile carpet.
