Roomba 600 Series Comparison Review: Roomba 690 vs. 614 vs. 650
Hello folks, today we want to look at Roombas from a different perspective in this Roomba 690 vs. 614 vs. 650.
Typically, Roombas are considered very expensive. This is true to some extent when you consider the fact that Roomba 960 and Roomba 980 cost $700 and $900 respectively.

Before we start this review, I just want to give you a picture of what the Roomba 600 offers. These are really old, but cheap Roomba models. Their performance is not the best when compared to later Roomba models but will definitely beat most entry-level models from other brands.
Basically, don’t expect much from the Roomba 600 Series regarding performance but the price is something to smile about.
1.Roomba 614 – No Schedule Function, but Very Affordable
The Roomba 614 is the cheapest Roomba in the market but then, what’s the compromise? First off, this robot vacuum is not as old as most review websites point out. Yes, the model number might suggest so, but then, it was released in 2016, yet the first Roomba 600 was released in 2012. So, what does it offer?
Contrary to what many expected, the Roomba 614 doesn’t offer much, and in fact, it is among the most central robot vacuum I’ve come across. It sacrifices much of the features the other Roombas boast including Schedule function meaning you can’t program it.
By all means, the Roomba 614 tails today’s contest because even the Roomba 650, that we previously knew as a basic Roomba is better than Roomba 614.
verdictI wonder how tight your budget will be to buy the Roomba 614. I suggest you top up and get something like Roomba 650 or opt for an alternative from other brands, for example, Deebot N79s that is Smart, intelligent and affordable.
2.Roomba 650 – Great Cleaning Performance, No Smart Connectivity
This is among the bestselling models from iRobot partially because it has been around for longer. Also, the Roomba 650 is very affordable and ranks among the cheapest Roombas in the market.
The Roomba 650 is far much better than Roomba 614. It comes with the Schedule function that Roomba 614 lacks and on top of that it is compatible with Virtual Walls. These are some really nice features that any homeowner should have.
The Schedule function allows you to program the Roomba for the entire week for a hassle-free cleaning experience.
On the other hand, Virtual Walls helps to contain the Roomba. You don’t want it to vacuum dog food, and Virtual Walls will help you keep it away from the dog feeding area.
But the icing on the cake is the fact that you get quite some good raw power too without squeezing your wallet.
verdictIn today’s contest, Roomba 650 emerges number two meaning the next model has a lot more features. Let’s find out why Roomba 690 is the winner in this Roomba 690 vs. 614 vs. 650 contest.
3.Roomba 690 – Raw Power and Smart Connectivity
This is another pretty new model that was in fact released together with Roomba 890.
The Roomba 614 vs. 650 debate was all about Schedule function. That’s the most significant aspect that brought the difference.
Now, when it comes to Roomba 650 vs. 690, it all goes down to Smart connectivity. Roomba 690 has Wi-Fi for Smartphone operation and also supports Alexa, Google Assistant, and several other 3rd party integrations.
Regarding cleaning performance, it is just the same as Roomba 650 and 614. On hard floors, it is just fine, but if you have pets, this is a vacuum you don’t want to but because of the constant tangling.
But for its price and Smart connectivity, I would not hesitate to go for it now that I don’t keep pets.
verdictIn our contest today, Roomba 690 is the winner. In the Roomba 690 vs. 614 contest, it takes all points now that it has Scheduling function, Virtual Walls, and Wi-Fi. When it comes to Roomba 690 vs. 650, it also wins the challenge courtesy of the Smart connectivity.
Roomba 690 vs. 614 vs. 650 Face-to-Face Comparison
Now, having looked at some of the highlights of each Roomba 600 model in our discussion today, it’s time we go to the core business of the day; comparing Roomba 690 vs. 614 vs. 650.
In this section, we will compare the features of Roomba 614 to the 650 and 690. We will also be sharing our cleaning test results so make sure to read along.
Roomba 650 Design, Dimensions, Aesthetics
This model is also similar to Roomba 614 when it comes to the dimensions. Perhaps the only difference is regarding the weight. This one is a little bit heavier, at 7.9lbs whereas Roomba 614 is 7.5lbs. The Roomba 650 is very much different aesthetically with a dark finish as well.
Specialty: What is Roomba 650 best for?
The Roomba 650 packs quite some decent power to suit hard floor and hardwood floor cleaning and vacuuming. It is also a good deal for carpet owners but definitely not the heavy fabrics and rugs. For those keen on longer runtime, to clean more floor space, opt for something else, not this one.
Will Roomba 650 clean hardwood floors?
The Roomba 650 will also vacuum hardwood floors very well. In our tests, the Roomba 650 vacuumed all the dirt leaving only a few flour stain patches. Otherwise, all the Cheerios, kitty litter, sugar and the rest were vacuumed thoroughly.
Can Roomba 650 vacuum carpets?
This is also another robot vacuum that has been recommended for carpets, but specific types only. Roomba 650 was able to vacuum all the large particles including the cereal without any problem. However, flour and sugar remained on the light pile carpet. When it comes to the medium pile and high pile, it gets worse because the Roomba 650 has average suction power.
Roomba 650 filter system
Here, Roomba has used their trademark Aerovac filtration system that has HEPA style filters. This means the Roomba 650 is not very efficient in filtering allergens but still, there is a difference when you enter a freshly vacuumed room; the ambiance is fresh!
What’s the vacuum power of Roomba 650?
This is quite an old model and comes with the 1st Generation motor. It is not so efficient but will deliver quite some good suction to pick up dirt on hard floors and light to medium pile carpet. The Roomba 650 delivers an average of 550 Pa.
Can you program Roomba 650?
Again, an old model beats a new model as Roomba 650 comes with schedule function whereas Roomba 614 lacks it. This feature enables homeowners to preset their preferred cleaning times, and the robot will definitely start cleaning when that time reaches.
How long will Roomba 650 run?
The Roomba 650 doesn’t have anything different from the Roomba 614. Also here, iRobot used a Li-ion battery with a 1800mAh capacity. It will run for an hour before going to the charging base for more juice. It will recharge for 2-3 hours, but unfortunately, it will not resume cleaning after recharging. This is excusable considering this is a really old model unlike Roomba 614 which is a pretty new model.
Roomba 650 navigation and mapping
The Roomba 650 comes with the old iAdapt navigation and mapping system. At the time of its release, it was the bombshell, and no one had a problem removing excess clutter from the floor to make its work easier. But today, this robot vacuum has no place in a market with better navigation systems. This one will get stuck a few times here and there.
When it comes to mapping, it also uses the old iAdapt and old software. You will find it making some really uninformed turns, and neither uses the easiest routes nor a definite pattern when cleaning. If you are keen enough, you will realize that it takes a little bit longer time to clean than Roomba 614.
Does Roomba 650 have Virtual Walls?
This is quite an old model, but I’m glad iRobot included Virtual Walls. This means you can set limits where you don’t want the Roomba to reach. This feature also comes in handy when you have many rooms. You can make sure that it first finishes cleaning a room before moving to the next instead of moving to the next just because it’s near the exit. It comes with one node included.
Is Roomba 650 Smart?
By the time of the release of the Roomba 650, Smart connectivity was not yet rolled out even though tests had already been done. That said, you won’t be able to control Roomba 650 with your Smartphone remotely or also using Alexa.
Why buy Roomba 650?
At least for the Roomba 650, it has the standard features you want in a robot vacuum.
So, who should buy the Roomba 650 and for what reason?
- Roomba 650 is very cheap and offers great value for money. It costs less than $300 and has some really amazing and unique features
- Unlike Roomba 614, this one has Schedule function and also Virtual Walls which help to make cleaning and the entire experience easier

Summary
Now, we have come to the end of our Roomba 690 vs. 650 vs. 614 face to face comparison review.
It’s clear that Roomba 690 is the winner in this contest because it has more features. This is contrary to what most people expected now that Roomba 614 is new. That brings us to the conclusion that the latest model isn’t always the best model. That is something that can be proven, at least within the ranks of Roomba.
If you want a Smart Roomba, then iRobot 690 is your choice here because Roomba 650 and 614 don’t have Wi-Fi and Alexa support. For those who are on a budget, the choice is between Roomba 650 vs 614. The advantage is that they pack the same raw power as Roomba 690 so cleaning performance is not compromised at all.
