Cyclone V10 Animal is another cordless stick vacuum for dry cleaning by Dyson. The model is almost identical to the V10 Absolute vac, differing only in a set of additional nozzles and blue color design.
The V10 Animal attracts attention with a non-standard appearance. It can be transformed into a portable handheld model and is characterized by a rather high work efficiency. I tested it in the vacuuming of both the car interior and the house, and in each case, it did its best.
The device has five advanced nozzles. In addition to the multi-surface torque drive cleaner head and crevice tool, the manufacturer provided us with a mini soft dusting brush, as well as a combination tool and a mini-motorized tool for cleaning upholstered furniture and spot pollutions. All the brushes are quite effective against animal hair.
And a compound wand with a convenient movable head helps get to the most remote places. Besides, the device adjusts to the surface to be vacuumed. A powerful digital motor and 14 cyclones provide high suction of 151 watts at three levels according to your preference.

I believe the speed with which vacs start their motors deserves special mention. At the same time, when I tested the vacuums, their suction never dropped even when the dust collectors of the models were two-thirds full. Both Absolute and Animal continued to collect debris with the same efficiency.
Cleaning Modes
On the handles, both vacuum cleaners have a key switch that`s responsible for turning the motor on/off. The key is pressed – the engine is spinning, not pressed – not spinning. Such an algorithm without fixing allows you to save battery power, as you turn on the suction only when it`s needed.
However, at the same time, continuous pressing of the switch turned out to be somewhat exhausting, and after 15 minutes of cleaning, my finger began to get tired. So the benefit of such a design seems rather dubious to me.
As for the modes, on top of the device cases, there is a movable lockable three-position button.
Thus the user selects one of three power levels.
Here a set of cleaning modes is simple – we`ve got Standard (mode I), Turbo (mode II), and Max (mode III).
Each of them is designed for pollution of various complexity. And the higher the power, the more charge it consumes. But in general, we note that even if the first two modes could fail in some cases, not a single dirt resisted the Max suction.
Filter System
Cyclone V10 Absolute and V10 Animal offer perhaps one of the most reliable and thorough filtration systems, which consists of several stages.
In total, the devices are equipped with three types of filters:
- the main two-stage cyclone filter
- a pre-motor fiber filter
- a post-motor filter that traps 99.97% of particles up to 0.3 microns in size.
The last two elements are combined in one removable unit and are easily washed and dried. The manufacturer doesn`t use the HEPA name for its filters, but since the system retains 99.97% of dust up to 0.3 microns in size, this degree of cleaning corresponds to the HEPA class according to the US and European standard.
The details described comprise five stages of filtration.
- On the first, a large cyclone separates heavy garbage.
- On the second, large and light garbage (like hair, fluff, etc.) is kept by a dust bag mesh.
- On the third, 14 fine cyclones separate fine dust and air. Dust falls into the central part of the dust container.
- Further, the air passes through the pre-motor filter (the fourth stage of filtration), catching almost everything that managed to go through the previous stages. And the post-motor filter performs the final cleaning.
Such thoroughness guarantees almost 100% air safety and is suitable for families with children, allergy sufferers, and fluffy pets.
Run Time
Both Absolute and Animal use 2600 mAh batteries, which, according to the manufacturer, should last for 60 minutes of cleaning. However, in practice, various factors, such as the mode and nozzles, affect the operating time. Therefore, having run the vacuum cleaners, I stated more objective periods.
So, while working with a simple non-electric nozzle, my Absolute and Animal lasted much longer.
Standard mode did last about 60 minutes, as Dyson claimed.
Turbo and Max modes consumed significantly more energy for more power, so the cleaning here lasted about 30 and 10 minutes, respectively.
After 3 – 3.5 hours, when I charged the devices, installed an electric brush, and performed another cleaning, the battery ran out much faster.
The work of the brush took a lot of energy, so in each of the modes, the vacuums worked for about 35, 20, and 5 minutes.
Although the run time turned out to be a third and sometimes half less than the manufacturer claimed, I was still pleased with the endurance of my cleaners. Even during this time, they managed to remove all the dirt.
Dustbin
The dustbin used in the Cyclone V10 series is made of polycarbonate and has a volume of 760 ml. This volume is more than enough for standard regular cleaning, and the transparent case allows you to assess the degree of filling at first glance. The container itself is easy to remove and wash.
Noise
If we talk about the noise level of Dyson V10 Absolute and Dyson V10 Animal, we have to admit that this factor is one of their shortcomings.
In Standard mode, vacuum cleaners operate at moderate volume (about 70 decibels). However, when I turned on the Max suction, the noise increased significantly, becoming unpleasant and disturbing. Most of the sound was made by the motor fan and some nozzles.
The manufacturer claims that the maximum noise of the devices reaches 87 decibels, and that is true. In any case, although the cleaning won`t be quiet, the power of vacuums atones for this drawback.
Accessories
A set of accessories is one of the few and, perhaps, the main difference between the two models of cordless stick cleaners. While the V10 Animal has five brushes that provide excellent dust and hair cleaning, Cyclone V10 Absolute is equipped with six and features the broadest nozzle set of all three V10 vacuums.
V10 Absolute
So, the Absolute has six nozzles. Three of them are simple nozzles without a motor.
- The first is a standard crevice tool. It`s long enough to get to the hidden places of dust accumulation, and together with the wand, it makes up more than a meter.
- A second nozzle is a combination tool with a sliding brush made of long and non-rigid nylon bristles. It`s suitable for the local cleaning of more complex dirt.
- The third is a quick-release mini soft dusting brush equipped with a whisk of soft bristles. This nozzle is intended for cleaning of delicate, varnished surfaces and cabinet furniture.
- A multi-surface torque drive cleaner head is the main one. Its maneuverability, together with small height allows it to be used for cleaning under low furniture and in corners. The head rotates from the electric motor and is equipped with two spiral rows of bristles. The black row is formed of soft carbon fiber bristles to collect hair, and the red row is made of thicker and harder nylon bristles to remove stubborn dirt. This brush is designed for cleaning carpets.
- A soft roller cleaner head features a similar design but another type of bristles. It looks like a roller with rows of black soft bristles and fields of the soft and short pile. This design allows the nozzle to collect large debris on hard floors without leaving scratches or other damage.
- And the final nozzle of the V10 Absolute kit is a mini-motorized tool. It`s a narrow electric brush with nylon bristles in two spiral rows. The manufacturer recommends using it for cleaning upholstered furniture and pet hair.
V10 Animal
Dyson Cyclone V10 Animal has an almost identical set of nozzles – three simple brushes and two electric ones.
They look exactly the same and perform the same tasks, so we won`t focus on this once again.
Let`s briefly list the tools:
- The main multi-surface torque drive cleaner head for carpet vacuuming, hair, and deep-down dirt
- A crevice tool for narrow, deep, and hard-to-reach areas
- A combination tool for spot vacuuming
- A quick-release mini soft dusting brush for extra delicate surfaces
- A mini-motorized tool for upholstered furniture, car interior, and pet hair.
Tests on different types of floors
I tested each vacuum cleaner on hard floors with fine and large debris, on carpets with hair pollution, on furniture, and in a handheld mode in the car interior.
V10 Absolute
The Absolute proved to be a true leader. This stick cleaner coped with 99% of all types of pollution. The soft roller head allowed it to collect all the dust and spilled rice from the laminate even in the weakest Standard mode. I only noted that the roller leaves small streaks of dust at the edges.
Pet fur and hair also didn`t pose a problem either on carpets or upholstery.
In Turbo mode, the vacuum collected about 80% of the hair and 90% of the dust. I didn’t even have to use Max mode, but I’m sure that if turned, the result would be even better. I was particularly pleased with the fact that rollers didn`t wind even long hair.
As for the handheld mode and cleaning furniture and car, nozzles played a special role here. Thanks to the mini-tools, I managed to get to the most difficult places.
However, I note that the handheld vac was somewhat difficult to hold after the first 20 minutes. Also, the battery ran out unexpectedly quickly in more powerful modes.
V10 Animal
Cyclone V10 Animal showed identical results.
Even despite the lack of a soft roller cleaner head, the cleaner was able to collect about 80% of large debris from the hard floor after the first pass. After the second, there was no sand or rice on the floor at all. However, to ensure perfect cleanliness along the skirting boards, I still had to change the nozzle to a smaller one.
Since the device positions itself as a vacuum cleaner for pet hair, I paid special attention to this type of pollution on carpets. And again, there was a success – Turbo mode and a standard nozzle were enough to collect hair from the medium-piled carpet.
When cleaning my dog’s rug, I decided to set the mini motorized-tool and Max mode at once, and in 5 minutes, the vacuum dealt with a weekly mass of hair.
A handheld configuration and nozzles were beneficial when cleaning the car and sofa upholstery. No visible debris left even in the cracks between the pillows and in the car seats.

Conclusion
Choosing between the two Dyson V10 models, I give preference to the Cyclone V10 Animal. Having the same functionality and a set of tools, which lacks only one nozzle compared to the Absolute, this vacuum offers a much more favorable price. At the same time, tests showed that it greatly copes with debris without this nozzle, but otherwise is not inferior to its opponent.
In general, I believe that at the moment, Cyclone V10 Absolute and Cyclone V10 Animal are some of the best Dyson stick cleaners. They show excellent results, have a rich set of accessories, and the disadvantages like noisiness are hardly worthy of attention.
