Eufy isn’t the name that pops up when you think about robot vacuums, but lately, the brand has been making noise by producing amazing options, such as the L35 Hybrid. And while it was impossible to find a self-emptying robot vacuum under $1000 years ago, the brand has come up with such for half the price, with the G40+ as one of its latest additions.

Eufy RoboVac L35 Hybrid vs. G40 Hybrid+: Face to Face Comparison

In this section, let’s find out how these two models compare in terms of key features.

Design, Dimensions, and Aesthetics

Eufy L35 and G40 Suction Power
Both models have the familiar circular shape complete with buttons for manual operations and a plastic bumper at the front. Immediately you will notice that the L35 Hybrid has a little turret, while the other doesn’t have any. What does this mean? More on that later!

The underside of the robot shows the wheels, sweeper, and cleaning head. Both models are compact, so they should have no trouble navigating underneath low-clearance furniture. Additionally, there are infrared sensors under the hood to aid in navigation.

The designers added some blue details to make the L35 Hybrid stand out, while a pair of bronze lines angling toward the logo complements the G40 Hybrid+. I have yet to determine what type of plastic the manufacturer uses to make these gizmos. Anyhow, these robots are strongly built to withstand occasional collisions and this is a relief for homeowners with pets or young children.

verdict

The configuration for the G40 Hybrid+ is pretty much the same as the L35 Hybrid. Each model has its own little details on its glossy black top surface to make them easier to distinguish. While the appeal of a robot vacuum can be important, it does not hold the biggest significance.

Navigation and Mapping

Eufy L35 and G40 Navigation
The Eufy L35 Hybrid uses LiDAR navigation to paint an accurate picture of its surroundings at a quick pace — faster than those relying on vSLAM and older systems. Eufy prefers to call their LiDAR navigation and software iPath Laser Navigation.

That little turret is where the robot houses its laser sensor. This tech enables the robots to measure the distance between the objects around them, thus allowing you to create precise virtual boundaries using the EufyHome app. If you already have magnetic tapes in place, the robot will also respect those boundaries.

After your home has been mapped out, the data collected will be fed into a digital system within the robots. Rather than wandering around your home and bumping against furniture, they will use the contained data to inform their decisions. The robots when to turn and cross from one space to another or which zones need more thorough cleaning than others.

Important

Can the Eufy L35 Hybrid work at night? Of course! One of the advantages of LiDAR is that the lasers illuminate the spaces and obstacles surrounding the robot.

However, LiDAR also has its drawbacks. Reflective objects and shiny surfaces, such as mirrors, may confuse the L35 Hybrid. The robot may also mistake wide objects hanging low, such as curtains and bed sheets, for walls.

On the other hand, the Eufy G40 Hybrid+ features Planned Pathfinding, which is a fancy term for the obsolete zigzag cleaning method. An outdated software and lack of advanced softwares makes it rather difficult for the robot to navigate through intricate spaces, especially one with plenty of obstacles.

Since this model doesn’t support smart mapping, you will have to use the Boundary Strip rolls to create no-go zones.

verdict

Eufy’s iPath Laser Navigation automates the entire vacuuming process of the L35 Hybrid and sets it to clean in an intelligent manner rather than relying on infrared and collision sensors. The G30 Hybrid+ doesn’t bring much to the table in this regard since it uses an outdated cleaning method that early generations of Roombas use.

Suction Power

Eufy G40 Suction Power
The G40 Hybrid+ also has BoostIQ in which the robot switches between Standard and Turbo based on the type of surface it detects. The maximum suction power for this model is rated at 2500 Pa.
verdict

With a suction power of 3200 Pa, the Eufy L35 Hybrid is clearly the winner in this regard.

Brush System

Underneath, the robots are all business. Both models come equipped with a rubber-and-bristle brushroll and a spinning side brush on one side. These robot vacuums may not boast of self-cleaning brushrolls, but they are decent nonetheless. Instead of a straight line, the dense bristles are zigzagged to help prevent hair from getting wrapped around the rubber parts of the cleaning head.

verdict

A common problem with many robot vacuums is pet hair wrapping around the brushrolls, causing it to clog. But unless you have a league of Nordic dogs inside your house, there should be no problem. You will, however, may need to find yourself doing a bit of maintenance each week using the cleaning tool included in the package.

Cleaning Orientation

Eufy G40 and L35 Cleaning Orientation
As the name suggests, these hybrid models can vacuum and mop simultaneously. Each robot has a compartment that holds the dustbin in the upper chamber and the water tank in the other. Underneath this combination box is where you attach the mopping plate along with the microfiber pad.

But just like the majority of hybrid robot vacuums, these two are never intended for floors with stubborn stains and dried dirt. You can adjust the water flow or moisture level of the pads using the app, but these models lack the scrubbing action that a few other hybrids in the market possess.

And of course, the experience is not truly “hands-free” as Eufy promises it to be. You will manually remove the water tank to fill it with water, re-attach the mop module for each cleaning job, and swap it out with a clean, fresh one when it gets filthy. I also have to gripe about how I have to delineate areas with rugs and carpeted flooring, and it gets worse for the G40 Hybrid+ since it doesn’t support virtual boundaries.

verdict

These models will happily wipe fresh stains off your hard floors with their dampened mops. But due to the lack of scrubbing motions, you will have to use a traditional mop for tackling tougher, ground-in grime. While the amount of hands-on labor involved isn’t particularly onerous, it does undermine the “hands-free” experience that Eufy promises.

Filtration and Bin System

Eufy G40 FiltrationIf you are fed up with emptying your robot’s bursting dustbin, the Eufy G40 Hybrid+ can eliminate this chore for you. This robot will automatically vacate its dustbin (approximately 97%, according to Eufy) once it parks back to its auto-empty station. Since this process can be loud and disturbing, it helps that you can set the frequency.

The G40 Hybrid+ is beneficial for those sensitive to pollen, dander, and other tiny airborne particles because it utilizes HEPA-style filters. Eufy didn’t specify the micron pore size of the filters, but this feature does offer greater convenience than the L35 Hybrid as it significantly limits your exposure to dust.

The 3.2-liter dust bag can facilitate up to a months’ worth of debris, depending on how dirty your floors get. Another plus is that the bug has antibacterial and deodorizing properties. You will receive a reminder on your phone if the bag needs to be replaced. Take note, you will have to stock up on these dust bags because they are not reusable.

verdict

The L35 Hybrid uses the same filter as the G40 Hybrid+, and although it lacks a self-emptying station, it makes up for a large dustbin with a volume of 330ml. If you like the L35 Hybrid but the concept of an auto empty station is quite compelling, why not opt for the L35 Hybrid+, instead?

Battery and Runtime

The L35 Hybrid runs a maximum of 145 minutes in Quiet Mode, which is its lowest setting. If you have a large home with carpets and rugs that need deep-cleaning, the robot may run for 60 to 100 minutes. Thick fibers reduce the cleaning time because they take more power to clean.

Eufy refused to specify the expected runtime for the G40 Hybrid, which bothers me a bit. During my test run, the G40 Hybrid ran for less than an hour. On the bright side, it returned and picked up where it left off, just like the L35 Hybrid.

verdict

The L35 Hybrid has an average runtime of 90 minutes before requiring a recharge, which is more than enough for cleaning a small apartment or a few large rooms. Since this model features a stronger suction power and more advanced navigation software, you can expect it to conserve more battery life than the other.

Automation and Smart Features

Eufy G40 and L35 Smart Features
Thanks to smart mapping, the L35 Hybrid can build up to three maps of your home that you can view and customize via the EufyHome app. You are free to leave the robot to its own devices using the BoostIQ or override its choices with just a few taps of your phone. As long as the robot is connected to your WiFi, you can order it to clean however you like.

You may also integrate Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant skills, so you can start a clean with the power of your voice when you’re at home. There are simply many ways to use the L35 Hybrid!

You will also need to install the EufyHome app to get the most out of the G40 Hybrid+. Unfortunately, there isn’t much you can do since the robot doesn’t support smart mapping to begin with. You may still be able to make a few adjustments, including how moist you want the mop to be.

Attention

The navigation and mapping abilities of a robot vacuum speaks volume of how smart it is. So when you want an intelligent robot, you will want to put weight on its navigation features, such as these key things:

  • Scheduled cleaning
  • Specific room cleaning
  • Spot cleaning
  • Virtual boundaries
  • Voice commands
  • Total number of maps
  • How well it functions in low-light areas
And so far, the L35 Hybrid offers these. This model isn’t the sharpest robot vacuum out there, but it definitely brings a lot to the table.

Cleaning Results

Although the G40 Hybrid+ has a lower suction power compared to the L35 Hybrid, it was more than enough to pick up dismembered dust bunnies, cheese powder, and Skittles on the floor. This model can clean hard surfaces with ease even on its lowest setting. I just don’t like how it sometimes flings the oats and other light debris. While the robot struggled picking up a cupful of silver dust that I scattered across a wooly rug, it picked up nearly all of my pet’s shedding.

On the other hand, I expected the L35 Hybrid to perform a fantastic job. While I still see something glittering in the thick rug, its general debris collection is impressive.

L35 Hybrid0.970.970.94

When it’s time to head home to the auto-empty station, slow and steady was the name of the game for the G40 Hybrid+ since it relies heavily on infrared sensors and an outdated algorithm, rather than the more advanced LiDAR scanner technology and smart mapping. This puts the G40 Hybrid at a disadvantage. Using this robot to clean an entire house will likely require a bit of human dependence, especially for large homes with intricate spaces or complex layouts. The G40 Hybrid will spend a lot of its time repositioning itself.

Wrapping Up

Robot vacuums using LiDAR navigation are no longer the novelty they were just a few years ago. The Eufy L35 Hybrid is among the latest members of the party of robot vacuums with this innovation and it certainly has brought a lot of advantages for homeowners. Although mopping is a disappointing affair, it is an excellent robot vacuum nonetheless.

But if you want a basic two-in-one robot with self-emptying abilities, you might want to consider the G40 Hybrid+. Then again, will you really settle for a so-so cleaning performance in exchange for this convenience? If you have allergies, it might be a compelling option, but the navigation features of this model leave a lot to be desired.

Does Eufy G40 leave wet stains and paddles? Can it make the floor slippery?

Swartzcop Kennedy

Thank you very much for your question! Eufy G40 has a function of water flow control through the app. That means you can set the most appropriate water flow for you and avoid paddles and dangerous slippery areas.
