Short Description

In 2020 Neato Robotics announced the launch of three models of robot vacuum cleaners – D8, D9, and D10. These models combine the 15 years of company experience in the design of robotic cleaners and the latest achievements in the industry. This article compared two models, D9 and D10.

Both models are equipped with laser navigation technologies to create detailed interactive maps with no-go zones, have effective air filters and Helix multi-surface brush controlled from a smartphone application, and have a unique D-shape to clean all corners in your house. These cleaners are designed for powerful suction of dirt on all surfaces, including carpets. Below you can see what the difference between D9 and D10 is and check the parameters that better suit your needs.

Face to Face Comparison Review

1. Design and Dimensions
D-shape
D-shape

Neato D9 and D10 have the same D-shape design and exact dimensions. ECOVACS Company proposed this innovative form (Brand owner) to come closer to walls and corners and clean them more effectively than typical round vacuum cleaners. This also allowed to insert a wider brush roll and a larger dustbin.

2. Cleaning Orientation

Both cleaner D9 and D10 can perform vacuuming functions.

3. Suction Power
2 Modes
3 Modes

Compared to Neato D9 vs D10, D10 is the winner with a suction power of 2500 Pa. It’s better on 60% in dirt and debris picking up from carpets and hard floors than the previous series on Neato cleaners, while D9 is only 40%. Neato D9 cleaner has two modes of working: Turbo with the strongest suction and Eco with the quietest and longest performance. Neato D10 has an additional maximum mode with the strongest suction.

4. Cleaning coverage
1600 sq. ft.
2700 sq. ft.

Neato D10 also wins Neato D9 in this comparison. Neato D10 can cover more surfaces before it requires recharging. The D10 model is preferable for large houses with a lot of rooms.

5. Navigation
LaserSmart SLAM + Lidar navigation
LaserSmart SLAM + Lidar navigation

The Lidar Navigation with lasers works the same for both models. They ideally avoid stairs, understand the difference between a hard floor and a carpet, and can clean effectively at night (camera-based models can’t). But unfortunately, both D9 and D10 can climb legs and other small furniture (up to 0.75 inches) and get stuck there. Also, without any camera, your robot will not spy on you and record images and audio inside your home.

6. Mapping
LDS sensors
LDS sensors

D9 and D10 are equipped with the same functionality as the mapping system. Both models make the floor plan or multiple floor plans during the first run with the LIDAR laser. In the smartphone application, you can add into high-precision interactive map virtual boundaries and no-go zones to prevent cleaning sensitive areas. In the smartphone application, you can also see which areas have already been cleaned.

7. Filtration
Ultra-Performance Filter E11
True HEPA Filter H13

Neato D10 has a better filter than Neato D9. The true HEPA filter can capture 99.97% of dust and allergens up to 0.3 microns, while the D9 filter can capture only 99.5%. Both filters have a mesh cover, prolonging the filter’s life. D10 is recommended for allergic people that can generally breathe with this filter. The Neato non-washable filters are installed in a dustbin and should be replaced after one-two month of usage.

8. Tools and Brushes
Two brushes
Two brushes

There is no difference between brushes Neato D9 vs D10. Both cleaners have one side brush on the edge to clean corners, and an extra-wide Helix brush (11 inches) works for 140o with reduced noise on hard floors. In the package, there is also a brush cleaning tool, but even though brushes should be replaced every 6-8 months. All brushes are designed for all types of floors except high pile carpets.

9. Dustbin Features
0.7 l
0.7 l

Both cleaners, thanks to D-shape, have one of the biggest dustbins in 0.7 l compared to other robot cleaners. This size allows for keeping more dirt, pet hair, and other debris. You do not need to stop the cleaning cycle because of the full dustbin. Nevertheless, the dustbin should be cleaned after each use for effective cleaning. No indicator for a full bin is installed on these cleaners.

10. Battery and Runtime
4200 mAh Li-ion/200 min
6200 mAh Li-ion/300 min

Neato D10 wins this competition. High-capacity D10 battery allows 300 minutes of cleaning cycle versus 120 min for D9 battery. The charging time for the D9 battery is about 3.5 hours, while D10 – 4 hours (not so much longer). The smartphone application can track the battery level, and the color indication on the cleaner’s body shows it. If the battery is low, both robots will return automatically to the charging station and, with a full battery, resume from the same place.

11. Automation and Smart Features
Google, Alexa, SmartApp
Google, Alexa, SmartApp

Neato D9 and D10 have the same automation and smart features that are easily connected via Wi-Fi. There is a start-up button for auto-mode cleaning on the cleaners, while all complex control functions are performed in a smartphone application. Virtual boundaries, No-go zones, floor map, customizing, scheduling, choosing of modes, the status of the battery, and many more can be checked via a smartphone application. An application also notifies the owner about any troubles. Both cleaners are integrated into Google and Alexa Smart Home Systems could be controlled with the voice.

What's in the Box?

Neato D9 comes with:
The D9 vacuum robot cleaner itself, a slimline charging base with a 6-inch cord to the socket, one installed and two extra ultra-filters, already installed the main helix brush and a one side brush, a brush cleaning tool, and installed a 4200 mAH battery.

Neato D10 comes with:
The D10 vacuum robot cleaner itself, a slimline charging base with a 6-inch cord to the socket, one installed and two extra HEPA filters, already installed the main helix multi-surface brush and a one side brush, a brush cleaning tool, and installed a 6200 mAH Li-ion battery.

Summary

The comparison of Neato D9 vs D10 showed that both models are excellent robot cleaners with similar results in the cleaning tests. The D10 has upgraded characteristics as a true HEPA filter versus ultra-performance filter; increased run-time to 300 min versus 200 min; more powerful suction time with additional maximum mode, and higher price. All other features (type of navigation, dustbin size, brushes, smartphone control, shape) are the same for both cleaners and allow D9 to work almost with the same quality as D10. So, D10 is recommended for large homes and allergic people.
