Robot technologies improve the quality of our lives. They regularly improve technology, functionality, and convenience. The latest robots can not only vacuum but also mop; they have a self-empty and self-cleaning docking station. Depending on your budget, you can easily choose the model with minimum maintenance or a basic model without automatic recharge and resume. Canister vacuums are left only once per month for deep cleaning, while robots do the everyday job of collecting debris and dust after meals, spills, and pet messes.

In this review, we will compare two robot vacuum cleaners from Eufy with advanced technical characteristics for a very reasonable price. Eufy is part of the Chinese Company Anker Innovation Co, Ltd. and is famous for its home appliances and security devices. You can purchase these reliable robots on Amazon. Their main characteristics are presented in the table.

Eufy X8 vs. X9 – Face-to-Face Comparison

The table with main characteristics does not include all characteristics of eufy Clean X8 Pro and X9 Pro; their detailed technical characteristics will be provided further in this review.
1. Design and dimensions
Round-shaped

The eufy X8 model is a black round-shaped vacuum robot cleaner. On the top are three buttons for quick control: spot cleaning, full auto clean, and go home.

For moving around, it has two main rubber wheels on two sides that can go up and down to improve performance on rugs and one small in front (swivel wheel) to make turns. The bumper in front of the robot protects the sensor from damage and crashes; on this bumper, the rubber strap protects tables and chair legs.

The eufy X8 Pro can climb up to 19mm in height. The robot has an expanded air duct to suck more dust and debris without blockages.

D-shaped

The eufy X9 model is a black D-shaped vacuum robot cleaner with rounded corners. Such a shape helps to clean better corners and around the walls.

It has the same three buttons on the top for auto cleaning, spot cleaning, and return to the Base station (recharge). If you simultaneously press the home and spot buttons, the WI-FI will be automatically reset. The same wheels are installed on the bottom: two main rubber wheels and one swivel in front. The eufy X9 can climb up to 20 mm in height.

The main brush roller is in front of the robot, near the side brush. The bumper in front of the robot protects the robot from crashes; it also has a rubber strap to protect the furniture.

The shape of the X9 model determines better cleaning of edges, also, the robot cleans closer to the walls. However, the location of the main brush of the X9 is not as good as in the X8, and because of that, some debris can be left. So, there is no clear winner in comparing eufy X8 vs. X9.

2. Cleaning orientation
Vacuum and mop

Like the X8 version, the eufy Clean X8 Pro has a twin-turbine technology. That means it has two vacuum motors than the usual one for double suction performance. The X8 Pro has 8000 Pa of powerful suction performance.

This system offers 80% more airflow and 1.8 times better cleaning than standard robot cleaners. This model is recommended for cleaning pet hair, carpets and high-traffic areas. The robot is designed to clean with a Z-shaped cleaning path in auto mode.

In the spot mode the cleaning spot is 4.9 ft. x 4.9 ft. You can only vacuum or simultaneously mop and vacuum, if you put on the mopping module. The mopping performance is determined by 0.6 kg downward pressure, no ultrasonic movements.

Vacuum and mop

The X9 version vacuums and mops simultaneously using only one motor. It has powerful 5500 Pa suction power for vacuuming to collect all debris and then mop the floor with one swoop.

The mopping performance is determined by rotating the pads 3 times per second with 1 kg download pressure. The robot is equipped with carpet sensors to avoid mopping them and to increase suction power for deep cleaning.

The mopping pads are lifted for 12 mm on carpets. The cleaning path is Z-shaped as well. The cleaning modes are the same – auto and spot.

As the construction of the X8 allows for vacuuming and mopping separately, as well as the suction power of the X8 is higher, it is the winner in this part of the comparison.

3. Mopping pads
One

The eufy X8 Pro has a decent mopping function for hard floors. It uses a single microfiber mopping pad that does not leave watermarks on tiles. For stubborn messes, you can add cleaning solutions to the water tank.

Unfortunately, this robot is not designed for large spills and does not have a mopping pad lift when it detects a carpet. But you can easily remove the wet mopping pad if you are cleaning carpets.

You must manually wash a mopping pad every time after the mopping cleaning cycle. You can wash a mopping pad in a washing machine.

Two

The eufy X9 Pro also performs hard floor mopping using two rotating mopping pads.

They have a pentagonal shape to cover more ground. Mopping pads are pushed to the floor to improve the scrubbing activity of the cleaner.

Every few minutes, the robot goes to the Base station to scrub the pads against the friction pads to wash and remove all dirt stuck to the pads; after that, the robot will continue mopping by the shortest route to the left spot.

The X9 is the winner, as the rotating mopping pads with higher download pressure ensure better floor scrubbing. Moreover, the X9 pads are automatically washed and dried.

4. Navigation and mapping
AI Map 2.0 / Laser

The X8 model uses infrared sensors to navigate accurately, around obstacles, and avoid cliffs. The AI mapping sensors are located in front of the robot.

The robot finds the best routes to clean your house as quickly as possible. The Lidar lasers (LDS) are located on top of the lid to measure distance to the objects and navigate at night.

The carpet sensors are responsible for increasing suction to the turbo mode. Using all sensors and lasers, the X8 model builds maps quickly and accurately.

AI Map 3.0/ Laser

The X9 model is also packed with many sensors (bumps, walls, carpet, cliff, floor sensors, etc.) to create AI navigation.

The AI Map 3.0 technology allows the creation of real-time maps for the multiple-floor house. On the map, you can even see obstacles highlighted by the robot.

For that, it uses LiDAR on the top, 3D ToF, and an RGB camera for obstacles too low for LiDAR. The X9 successfully cleans the floor in the dark as well.

The X9 Pro has more advanced navigation and mapping technologies that ensure almost 100% obstacle recognition and more accurate and fast mapping. So, the X9 is the winner in this part of comparison eufy X8 vs. X9.

5. Filtration
2- stage system

The X8 Pro has one filter in the dustbin. The first part is presented with a small mesh to stop clogs.

The filter should be washed and dried for 24 hours after each cleaning performance to prolong excellent performance.

2- stage system

The X9 Pro has one HEPA filter in the dustbin and one pre-filter (fine mesh). The filter should be cleaned with cold water; using hot water, brushes, or detergents is not allowed.

Before cleaning, you need to tap the filter to remove dust. The filter should be air-dried for 24 hours before usage.

There is no winner in this filter comparison. The two-stage filtration system is the same for both models.

6. Tools and Brushes
3

The eufy Clean X8 Pro is designed to resist hair tangling and collect fur. The Active Detangling Roller brush has reverse rotation for detangling and forward rotation for picking up hair; it ensures 89.6% of pet hair is sucked into a dustbin.

So, it automatically rotates in different directions if it detects the combs on the brush. The brush has a V-shape design to guide the dust and debris into the air duct. The one-side brush accurately removes all dust and debris from corners. You can find a cleaning tool in the package for cleaning the roller brush and removing hair.

2

The eufy Clean X9 Pro has a rubber floating tangle-free brush roll. There are no bristles on this V-shape brush, which reduces the quantity of tangled hair.

The edge brush helps remove all debris from the corners to the main brush for further suction into the dustbin.

The main brush with bristles of the X8 and the two-way rotation ensures no hair tangling. Also, bristles additionally scrub the floor to remove stubborn mess. Moreover, you may use a cleaning tool to maintain a main brush. We call the X8 the winner in this part.

7. Built-in Tanks Features
335 ml/ 270ml

The eufy X8 Pro has a dustbin under the lid located in the middle of the robot with compressor technology to collect more dust in one cleaning cycle. The water container is located on the back and can be easily extracted with a mopping pad below for refilling.

The water tank has a small filter to stop any obstacles from entering. The water container with a mopping pad is called a mopping module in the quick guide.

410 ml

The eufy X9 Pro has a large dustbin in the middle of the robot under the lid, but it does not have a water tank.

The dustbin should be regularly cleaned after each cleaning cycle, as the Base station does not have a self-empty cycle. The water pads become wet only in the Base station; after they are washed, they are soaked in water for a while.

These two robots are designed with different technologies for mopping. From our perspective, the absence of a water tank makes it difficult to clean large homes with remote installation of the Base station. The dustbins' size difference is not significant – 335 ml vs. 410 ml. Nevertheless, we can’t call the winner in this section.

8. Battery
5200 mAh

The eufy X8 Pro is an intelligent robot that automatically goes to the docking station to recharge and resumes where it had finished.

5200 mAh

The eufy X9 Pro has the same replicable battery as the X8 model. The robot recharges and resumes as well.

There is no winner in this section, as the installed batteries in these robots are identical.

9. Base station
Self-empty station

The eufy Clean X8 Pro comes with the most compact, self-empty docking station. So, the robot is not only charging, but also, during this process, all dust is sucked into a 2.5 L bacteria static bag with a self-sealing inside the base station.

The dust can be stored for up to 6 weeks (45 days). The dust suction is quite noisy, so you can schedule it while you are away. In the app, you can also choose the brush cleaning function to remove all debris and allergens; this makes the maintenance almost hand-free.

The self-empty station has infrared sensors to help the robot return and two charging contact pins. The LED indicator shows the working mode of the base station (red – error, white – stand by or emptying the dustbin).

Auto-Clean station

The eufy Clean X9 Pro has two 4.1 L tanks – one for clean water and one for dirty. This base station does not have a bin to collect the dust, but it automatically washes and dries with 104 F hot air mopping pads.

The auto-clean station has infrared sensors to help the robot return to the station. The cleaning tray for washing mopping pads is removable.

The LED indicator on the station shows the current activity or possible errors. The smartphone application controls the frequency of washing the pads.

The functionality of the X8 and the X9 station is different. We would appreciate the combined functionality. But, depending on your needs, you can choose between automatic washing of pads or automatic dustbin empties. There is no winner.

10. Smart features
App/Alexa/Google

The eufy Clean X8 Pro is controlled via a smartphone where you can choose the suction level (4 levels – quiet, standard, turbo, and max), a water level (3 levels – low, medium, and smart), select the whole floor cleaning or individual rooms and zones.

You can also set no-go and no-mop areas. Many other functions are available via the app, including cleaning schedules and how often the base station will empty the built-in dust bin.

Moreover, you can use the robot manually using the buttons in the app to achieve the spot for cleaning quickly.

App/Alexa/Google

The eufy X9 Pro has the same control functionality from the smartphone app and voice assistants. In the app, you can check the current position of the robot and its battery life, customize the cleaning cycle, or schedule upcoming cleanings.

You set the barriers in a 2D or 3D map and set no-mop or no-go zones. The suction and water levels are the same as for the X8 Pro.

Manual control buttons are also available in the app. In addition to this functionality, you can change the mop washing frequency and auto-drying duration.

The control and smart features of these models are similar. There is a slight difference only in additional control features of their Base station. There is no winner in this section.

Setting up the robots

The eufy X8 and X9 Pro are easy to maintain; you need to plug in the base station and position the robot to start charging. The base station should be installed near the wall, and for the X8 robot placement, the sticky plastic cover should be glued to the floor. The X9 does not have this pad, as it has a removable plastic pad.

After that, you need to pair your robot with a smartphone, give it a name, and update it. For the first time, the robot is driving around to map your house. The X9 has a clean water tank that should be filled to the maximum level before the first run and checked occasionally.

verdict

There is no difference in setting up the X8 and the X9 Clean Pro models.

verdict

The maintenance for both robot cleaners includes cleaning the main parts and replacing them in time to prolong damage-free perfect performance. The list of cleaning parts differs from the abilities of their Base Station. Nevertheless, the quantity is the same. So, the maintenance of Eufy X8 vs. X9 is the same. You just need to follow the instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

The eufy X8 Pro Clean goes with a waterproof plastic pad. Do I need to use it?

You can use the robot without this pad. If your docking station is located on the wooden floor, we recommend using it to prevent long-term contact with a wet mopping pad. Meanwhile, this pad helps to place the robot for charging quicker.

FAQ

Do I always need to remove a mopping module during cleaning?

You can keep the mopping module installed on the robot if you have set a no-mop zone. The mopping module should be removed if your carpets or thresholds are over 19 mm. Without the mopping pad, the limitation for vacuuming is 26 mm.

Which robot cleaner has an automatic water refill during storage on the Base Station?

The eufy X8 Pro does not have an automatic water refill; you need to refill it manually.

Do I need to turn the Base station constantly plugged into the electricity?

Yes. Keeping the infrared connection between the robot and the Base station is required to ensure a successful return; otherwise, the RoboVac will not return automatically.

As there are no water tanks in the robot, can I fill the water in the dustbin of the X9 Pro?

No, the dustbin is used only to collect dirt and dust. For simultaneous mopping and vacuuming, water is not required in the robot; it uses water from the Base station.

Which Robot Vacuum and Mop cleaner is better: Eufy X8 or X9?

The detailed comparison of eufy X8 vs. X9 shows that these two cleaners have pros and cons, and it is difficult to call a winner in this competition. The X8 has more suction power and can be used without mopping, while the X9 is especially good for eliminating stubborn and sticky messes. Even though the X9 is more advanced in navigation and mapping (almost 100% of obstacle identification), it does not have a built-in water tank and does not have a self-empty dustbin function (for example, Q Revo Roborock station can wash and dry pads, and empty the dust bin).

In conclusion, you should choose based on the functionality. If you need a powerful robot vacuum cleaner and sometimes you need a mopping function, then choose the X8 Clean Pro. If you need simultaneous mopping and vacuuming of stubborn messes, choose the X9 Clean Pro.
