Shark AZ1002 vs AZ2002 – Comparison Review

The Shark AZ1002 and AZ2002 represent standard vacuum upright cleaners. The Shark AZ1002 is smaller in size and lighter in comparison with AZ2002, which ensures easier maneuverability and more comfortable moving around the home. But the difference is not significant. They are more dissimilar in color; AZ1002 is brown, AZ2002 – silver, and red. The assembly parts are the same, but dustbins have diverse forms.

Power lift away technology in both cleaners allows you to have two vacuum cleaners in one – a standard vacuum upright cleaner and a handheld one. One button detaches the pod for motorized brush cleaning under furniture or detaches the hose for above-floor cleaning of stairs, curtains, and shelves.

There is not much difference in suction power of Shark AZ1002 vs AZ2002; their mighty suction power is higher than for most upright vacuum cleaners. With the latest Hyper Velocity Acceleration Suction technology, Vertex has a higher number of airflow and is the most powerful vacuum among Shark's cleaners. Apex and Vertex can pick up all debris on floors and carpets.

Vertex and Apex models are designed only for dry vacuum cleaning. They have no mopping function.

The Shark AZ1002 and AZ2002 are designed with Active glide technology, allowing equal maneuverability for both models on all surfaces. With the same length of hose, the access to the remote areas is also identical.

Comparing Shark AZ1002 vs AZ2002, the Vertex model has a wider cleaning path – 12", while Apex only 11". A wider path ensures less required time and effort for cleaning.

These Apex and Vertex have equal Anti-allergen complete seals. The washable HEPA filter secures post-motor exit from the dustbin and keeps 99,9% up to 0.3 microns of dust and allergens; the pre-motor exit is secured with washable foam and felt filters. The HEPA filter should not be scrubbed during washing; while cleaning all filters, please do not use soap; use only cold water and air-dry afterward for 24 hours. The HEPA filter should be cleaned or changed once a year, and foam and felt filters – every three months.

The Vertex and Apex main nozzle are designed with DuoClean Technology, which means in the nozzle, there are two self-cleaning brushes (dual) for collecting large and fine dust without hair wraps. But there is a significant difference where the AZ2002 wins – one of the brushes is a roll with power flexible silicone fins that ensures non-stop deep contact with all types of hard floors and carpets for more collection. The AZ1002 has instead a bristle brush that can leave gaps. The second brush for both is a soft brush for polishing the floor. The Apex has three additional devices: an upholstery tool, a pet power self-cleaning brush, and a 12" crevice tool for installation on the wand or the handle for above-floor cleaning and cleaning tight places. The Vertex, instead of an upholstery tool, has a dusting brush.

This technical parameter is also preferable to the Vertex model – it has a bigger dustbin – 1 quart (946 ml), so it can keep more dust and should be cleaned less. The Apex has a 0.88-quart bin (832 ml).

As standard upright vacuum cleaners, these Shark models do not work from batteries. They are corded without limitations of runtime. Their long cords – 30 ft. allow them to clean several rooms without switching sockets.

The Shark AZ1002 and AZ2002 have only a manual control with fingertips, so no automation or smart features are available. The control functions are executed for two models the same. On the handle, there are several buttons – a power button, a suction power slider, and buttons for choosing the mode for cleaning the hard floor, low-pile, or hard-floor carpets. In addition, there is a button for wand release on the wand and on a container, a powered lift away, dust cup release, and filter access buttons.
