Roborock E5 vs. Q5, what’s the best bang for the buck? Well, the Q5 is the better option as it offers better cleaning and more features. But still, you can’t rule out the E5 as it fits the bill if you want a robot vacuum and mop combo.
The Roborock E5 and Q5 are two popular robot vacuums from the Chinese brand Roborock. The two share a lot. They are robot vacuums that can sweep and vacuum. However, there are distinct differences that should inform your purchase decision.
The main difference between the Roborock E5 and Q5 is the cleaning orientation, bin management, navigation, and mapping. The E5 is a robot vacuum with an optional mop, doesn’t support automatic bin emptying, has an older navigation and mapping system, and comes with a remote. On the other hand, the Roborock Q5 can only vacuum, supports automatic bin emptying, and comes with a more advanced navigation and mapping system.

The Roborock E5 boasts a low-profile design allowing it to fit under most furniture with low clearance. The diameter is 13.78 inches, while the height is 3.78 inches. The weight is 6.61 lbs.
When it comes to aesthetics, the E5 is available in 2 colors. There’s a white model and a black one. The robot has two control buttons on the top interface, a small turret, and the roborock logo.
The Roborock Q5 has a 13.78-inch diameter while the height is 3.78 inches, just like the E5. The main difference here is the weight. While the E5 is 6.61 lbs, the Q5 is slightly heavier at 7.05 lbs.
Regarding aesthetics, the Q5 is also available in 2 colors, black and white. There are also two buttons on the top interface, a raised turret with the navigation system and the roborock logo.
Here, it's hard to call a winner as both robot vacuums have a low-profile design and are available in 2 colors.
The Roborock E5 Mop can vacuum and mop. This model comes with the SnapMop system, so you won’t have to purchase it separately, as would be the case with the E5 base model.

The E5 is also suitable for homes with pets as it can handle pet hair, kitty litter, and even urine stains in mop mode.
The Roborock Q5, on the other hand, can vacuum only. There is no mopping system.
As for specialization, it is ideal for all hard floors, including tile, linoleum, vinyl, marble, hardwood, and so on.
You can also rely on this Roborock as a robot vacuum for pet hair, kitty litter, and other pet messes, but certainly not urine stains and paw marks.

The Roborock E5 may be an entry-level robot vacuum but packs excellent suction. Under the hood, it has a powerful motor for HyperForce suction. It can deliver a whopping 2,500pa when firing on all cylinders.
Just to mention, the motor is multispeed, meaning you can adjust suction depending on your cleaning needs. There are 4 suction levels: Quiet, Balanced, Turbo, and Max. Also worth mentioning is carpet boost which steps up suction immediately after the robot detects carpets.
The Q5 also has a powerful brushless motor that delivers a cool 2,700pa when in high power mode. This motor is also multispeed with 4 adjustable suction levels: Quiet, Balanced, Turbo, and Max.
In addition, this robot has also been engineered with a carpet boost function that steps up suction on carpeted surfaces for thorough cleaning.
While both vacuums have high suction, the Q5 is the best as it delivers 2,700pa while the E5 delivers 2,500pa.
The Roborock E5 Mop comes with a mopping function. For the record, the base model, the Roborock E5, doesn’t come with the mopping system, but you can purchase it separately. So, what features does the E5 Mop SnapMop System have?
First, it comes with a 180ml water tank. This is not an electric water tank, but it is efficient when it comes to water usage. A full tank can handle up to 1,600 sqft.
The scrubbing and actual mopping is done with a microfiber pad. There is no carpet detection, so detaching the water tank is the best way to avoid wetting carpets.
Unfortunately, the Roborock Q5 doesn’t have a mopping function. It vacuums only.

The Roborock E5 is the best choice here as it can mop floors for a comprehensive cleaning. However, the mopping is not as effective as the high-end Roborock vacuum and mop combos with Sonic Mopping Technology.
The Roborock E5 has a logical navigation system that enables the robot to navigate your house. It relies on dual gyroscopes, motion sensors, and a retractable bumper.
We tested it in rooms with average traffic and are glad it avoided hitting obstacles and toppling down the staircase.
As for maneuverability, there are two wheels and an omnidirectional caster at the front. The robot’s climbing threshold is 2 cm (0.8in).
Roborock Q5 is an advanced robot vacuum that uses the latest technology for navigation. This is PreciSense Precision LiDAR Navigation, a SLAM-based navigation system that uses high-precision obstacle detection and anti-cliff sensors to prevent the robot from hitting obstacles and falling off the stairs. We tested it in a room with average traffic; it was splendid and better than the E5.
As for maneuverability, it’s exactly similar to the E5; 2 wheels, a front caster, and a 2 cm (0.8in) climbing threshold.
While the E5 can find its way around your home without accidents, it can't match the Q5, which comes with the latest navigation system. We finally tested them in a high-traffic room, and it was evident that the Q5 was a better navigator.
The Roborock E5, as an entry-level robot vacuum, doesn’t come with smart mapping. But it is still efficient and better than some of its competitors in the budget segment. It relies on an internal map to clean your house.
Unlike the latest models, the E5 uses a zigzag pattern to clean your house. Unfortunately, it missed some spots in a high-traffic room.
As for the extras, the E5 lacks several features, including selective room cleaning, map saving, real-time robot location, zone cleaning, and digital barriers.
It’s also worth noting that the Roborock E5 doesn’t have digital barriers. You will have to purchase magnetic strips if you want boundary-marking capability.
The Q5, on the other hand, is a smart robot vacuum with smart mapping features. It is more efficient and uses intelligent cleaning patterns allowing it to cover a larger area than the E5.
The Q5 creates hyper-accurate maps of your home courtesy of a 32-bit Quad Core processor and 3D Mapping. The system creates maps 6 times faster than the E5 and can store up to 4 maps making it best for homes with multi-levels.
When it comes to extras, the Q5 is well endowed with features such as selective room cleaning, zone cleanup, custom routines, real-time robot location, and digital boundaries.
Here, the Roborock Q5 is the ultimate winner. It is a smart robot vacuum with several extras that take cleaning to the next level.
Roborock E5 comes with a filtration system that keeps your atmosphere fresh. It features an E11-rated air filter that captures 95% of allergens and other elements that cause bad odor.
For the record, these are not true HEPA filters as they capture down to 0.6 microns, while true HEPA filters capture down to 0.3 microns. The good thing is that this filter is washable; thus, maintenance costs are reduced.
Roborock Q5, despite being a mid-range robot vacuum, still doesn’t come with HEPA filters.
Instead, it uses the same E11-rated filter the E5 uses.
It can also capture 95% of allergens and captures down to 0.6 microns. It is also a washable filter.
Here, there is no winner, as both vacuums come with the same E11-rated washable filter.
The Roborock E5 Mop comes with two brush systems.
First is the spinning side brush that reaches the deep corners and wall edges where the main brush can’t reach.
The main brush, on the other hand, is a multidirectional floating bristle brush.
It agitates and picks up all kinds of dirt on hard floors and carpets and has been designed to reduce hair tangling, but it still gets tangled, especially when dealing with long hairs.
Roborock Q5 also comes with two brushes.
First, a spinning side brush sweeps dirt, directing it to the main brush area. One difference between the E5 and Q5 is the brush compatibility.
The Q5 works with both the multidirectional floating bristle brush as well as the all-new Roborock rubber brush that prevents tangling in a better fashion than the multidirectional floating bristle brush.
Both models come with two brush systems; a side brush and the main brush. However, the Q5 is the best choice as it is compatible with two main brushes making it more versatile.
The Roborock E5 comes with a large 640ml dustbin. Unfortunately, the E5 is not a self-emptying robot vacuum. You will have to empty the onboard bin.
On the other hand, the Roborock Q5 comes with a 470ml onboard bin. It’s smaller than the E5. But the good thing is that the Roborock Q5 is a self-emptying robot vacuum.
The model in this review doesn’t come with the Roborock Auto-Empty Dock but works with the technology. The model that comes with the Auto-Empty Dock is the Roborock Q5+.
The Q5’s empty dock has a large 2.5L dustbag, enough to hold up to 7 weeks of dirt.
Roborock E5 sounds like a good idea now that it has a larger onboard bin. But ultimately, the Roborock Q5 is the best choice as it is compatible with automatic self-emptying making it more convenient.
If you have a large apartment, the E5 fits the bill courtesy of the extended runtime. It comes with a 5,200mAh lithium-ion battery that offers up to 200 minutes of runtime in Quiet mode. This is enough to handle up to 2,152 sqft on a single charge. In high-power modes, the runtime is shorter.
When it comes to power management, the E5 has auto recharge and resume capabilities. It will recharge and resume from where it left off. The recharge time is 3 hours, but you don’t have to wait for the entire 3 hours courtesy of Top Up charging.
The Roborock Q5 Mop is also suitable for cleaning large floor areas as it also comes with a 5,200mAh lithium-ion battery that offers 180 minutes runtime in Quiet mode.
On average, it can clean up to 3,230 sqft on a single charge. Here again, the runtime will dip when you switch to high-power modes.
The Q5 is similar to the E5 in terms of power management. It also has auto recharge and resume capabilities. Recharge time is 3 hours, and there’s also Top-Up charging.
Both Roborocks offer extended runtime and have auto recharge and resume capabilities. But ultimately, the Roborock E5 is the better option as it has a longer runtime.
Roborock E5 may be an entry-level robot vacuum, but it has a host of automation and smart features. To start, you can schedule the cleaner to clean at specific times throughout the week.
The robot is compatible with 2.4 GHz WiFi for remote operation. You can sync it with the Roborock Home app and access all the controls. You can also sync the robot with voice assistants such as Alex and Google Assistant.
Also worth mentioning is the MagBase remote control, which you can use to control the robot in the absence of WiFi. Other features include Over-The-Air Upgrades, Do Not Disturb, and Voice Pack.
