In this Deebot T8 vs. T8 AIVI comparison review, we have compared the two Deebot robot vacuums to find out which is the best robot vacuum to buy in 2022. So if you are not sure which model is the best to go for, you are at the right place.
There’s no doubt ECOVACS is one of the best robot vacuum brands. The T8 and T8 AIVI are among the best models from the Chinese brand.
So, what’s the difference between ECOVACS T8 and T8 AIVI? Well, the two models are very similar, but as the name suggests, the T8 AIVI uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) for navigation. Behind AIVI technology is a real-time camera that accurately identifies 2D and 3D objects.
To find out more about the two robot vacuums, read along.
Deebot T8 vs. T8 AIVI Face to Face Comparison
The Deebot T8 is a round-shaped robot vacuum that features a low-profile design to allow it to go under most low-profile furniture such as sofas, beds, kickstands, etc. It can also pass between tight spaces. It has a 13.9-inch diameter and stands at 3.7-inches. The weight is 7.78 lbs.
When it comes to aesthetics, the T8 boasts a sleek design and is available in two color options; black and white.
The T8 AIVI is also a round-shaped robot vacuum with a low-profile design to allow it to go under low-profile furniture and pass between tight spaces.
The dimensions are similar to the T8’s – 13.9-inches diameter and 3.7-inches high. It’s also a sleek robot vacuum available in two color variants, black and white.
There is no clear winner as far as design is concerned. Both models are round-shaped and have a low profile design.
The ECOVACS T8 is a 2-in-1 robot vacuum that can vacuum and mop simultaneously, so you don’t have to spend more on a robot mop.
When it comes to specialty, it is ideal for all types of bare floors, including tile, linoleum, vinyl, marble, and even hardwood. It’s particularly great for hardwood floors now that it has a wet mopping function that uses minimal water. As you may be aware, excess water may damage hardwood floors.
The T8 is also a great deal for homes with carpets, from the low pile carpets to the high pile. You can also rely on this robot vacuum to handle all kinds of pet messes, including pet hair, kitty litter, and even urine stains and paw marks.
The Deebot T8 AIVI is similar to the T8 in terms of cleaning orientation. This one, too, is a 2-in-1 robot cleaner that vacuums and mops simultaneously.
That said, you don’t have to spend any more money on a separate robot mop. Regarding its specialty, it’s also suitable for cleaning all types of bare floors, including tile, linoleum, marble, vinyl, and hardwood, among others.
The T8 AIVI also does a great job on carpets and can handle pet messes satisfactorily.
As far as cleaning orientation is concerned, the two Deebots are the same, so there's no winner. Both will vacuum and mop and can handle bare floors, carpets, and pet messes.
Under the hood, the Deebot T8 packs a powerful motor with four speed settings (suction levels) – Quiet, Standard, Max, and Max+.
It can deliver a whopping 1500pa in Max+, which is enough to vacuum all kinds of dirt on bare floors as well as low to medium pile carpets.
Regarding operation noise, the T8 produces an average of 67dB in Max+, which isn’t a concern even when the baby is asleep.
The Deebot T8 AIVI has the same specifications as the T8 when it comes to suction power. This one, too, has a powerful motor with four speed settings – Quiet, Standard, Max, and Max+.
In its highest power setting, the T8 AIVI delivers a cool 1500pa.
Regarding operation noise, it’s also the same as the T8. It operated at around 67dB.
Here again, it's hard to call a winner as the two robot vacuums have the same motor and deliver the same suction power. The suction levels and operation noise are also the same.
The Deebot T8, as mentioned earlier, is a 2-in-1 robot cleaner with dry and wet mopping. It uses the OZMO mopping system that consists of a 0.24L electronic water tank that can cover up to 2000 square feet.
There’s also a microfiber cloth that scrubs dirt and grime effectively. To prevent the robot from wetting carpets, there is Carpet Detection.
Interestingly, the T8 is compatible with the OZMO Pro Module, an add-on accessory that takes mopping to the next level by vibrating up to 480 times per minute, removing all stuck-on dirt, stains, and grime. The OZMO Pro Module has two mopping patterns and four water flow levels for customized cleaning.
The T8 AIVI is also a robot vacuum with OZMO mopping system. It features a 0.24L electronic water tank that can also cover 2000 square feet.
It’s assisted by a microfiber cloth responsible for scrubbing and wiping dirt. Here again, Carpet Detection prevents the robot vacuum from mopping carpets.
The T8 AIVI is also compatible with the OZMO Pro Module, which offers better mopping courtesy of the vibrating cleaning head. It also features two mopping patterns and has four water flow levels.
As far as mopping performance is concerned, there is no winner between the two Deebot robot vacuums as they all have the same OZMO mopping system. They are also compatible with the OZMO Pro Module.
The Deebot T8 has been engineered with TrueDetect 3D Advanced Technology for navigation. This technology uses 3D structured light technology to create a fast and accurate 3D image of your home. This enables it to find its way around your house and avoid hitting obstacles.
TrueDetect scans the distance between obstacles and the robot vacuum down to the millimeter level giving it 10X more accuracy than traditional infrared technology.
For the record, the Deebot T8 doesn’t come with a camera.
On the other hand, Deebot T8 AIVI uses Artificial Intelligence and Visual Interpretation Technology (AIVI) Smart Recognition Camera System for navigation.
There is a built-in optical lens that visually recognizes and avoids obstacles with greater accuracy and 2X faster object recognition than the predecessor. This makes the T8 AIVI the best robot vacuum for homes with high traffic as it rarely gets stuck.
What’s more? It learns from the daily cleaning sessions to enable it to recognize common obstructions with almost human-like intelligence.
Here, the Deebot T8 AIVI is better than Deebot T8. Even though the latter has an equally worthy navigation system, the camera of the T8 AIVI, together with AI, make it the best bang for the buck. Interestingly, you can rely on the camera to monitor your home remotely.
The Deebot T8 uses TrueMapping Technology for mapping. This precision laser mapping system creates highly accurate maps of your home for entire level cleaning. TrueMapping has a 2X greater range and 4X better precision than the previous models.
Worth noting is the fact that the T8 can create and store multiple maps, so it’s ideal for homes with multiple floors. Also worth mentioning is Advanced Custom Cleaning, which lets you clean specific spots, schedule cleaning sessions for specific rooms, schedule on-demand cleaning, and so on.
There’s also Virtual Boundaries, which enables users to create unlimited custom boundaries for containing the robot vacuum.
Deebot T8 AIVI is also an intelligent robot vacuum that sees your home just like you do. It relies on TrueMapping Technology to create hyper-accurate maps of your home. Just like the T8, the T8 AIVI has a 2X greater range and 4X more precision than previous models such as the T5. Just like the T8, it can also create and store multiple maps making it suitable for homes with more than one level.
There’s also Advanced Custom Cleaning for customized cleaning and Virtual Boundaries that let you draw boundaries right from the app.
One unique feature of the T8 AIVI is Missed Area Notification which is basically a feature that notifies you of spots that the robot had not reached because of obstacles. This way, you can remove the obstacle and send the robot to that specific spot.
The Deebot T8 and T8 AIVI are very similar when it comes to mapping. They both use TrueMapping Technology and all the standard features. However, the AI included in the T8 AIVI and Missed Area Notification make it the best bang for the buck, especially if you have a large apartment.
The Deebot T8 doesn’t come with true-HEPA filters. Instead, they have a 3-layer high-efficiency filter that captures 99% of allergens and other elements that cause a bad odor or can trigger allergies.
Unfortunately, they capture allergens as small as 0.6 microns. For the record, true-HEPA filters filter down to 0.3 microns.
The Deebot T8 AIVI also comes with a 3-layer high-efficiency filter that captures 99% of allergens. But unlike true-HEPA filters, it can capture allergens as small as 0.6 microns.
Here, it's hard to call a winner as both Deebot robot vacuums have a 3-layer high-efficiency filter.
The Deebot T8, just like all robot vacuums, relies on a 3-stage cleaning system. There are brushes for sweeping and agitation. Two spinning side brushes reach the deep corners and wall edges while the 6.25-inch main floating brush agitates and lifts dirt.
Unfortunately, the T8’s primary brush gets tangled often when vacuuming long dog hair. But all the same, it does a great job.
There’s no difference between the Deebot T8 vs. T8 AIVI in terms of the brush system. It also comes with two brushes. First is the dual spinning side brushes that reach the wall edges and deep corners, though not thoroughly.
There’s also a floating main brush that agitates and lifts dirt. It also tends to get tangled when handling long pet hairs.
Here again, it's a draw as the two Deebot robot vacuums have the same brush system, a spiral floating main brush and two spinning side brushes.
The Deebot T8 comes with a 0.42L onboard bin. This is enough to hold a busy home’s dirt. The bin needs to be emptied manually now that the T8 doesn’t come with the Deebot Auto Empty Station.
But the good thing is, it is compatible with ECOVACS’ automatic self-emptying. So, if you buy the Auto Empty Station, you are good to go.
The T8 AIVI is similar to the T8 when it comes to the dustbin features. It also comes with a 0.42L onboard bin that also requires manual emptying, preferably daily.
Like the T8, the T8 AIVI is also compatible with Deebot’s Auto Empty Station, but you have to purchase the Auto Empty Station separately.
There is no contest in this round as both Deebot vacuums come with the same 0.42L bin and are also compatible with the ECOVACS Auto Empty Station.
The Deebot T8 is among the best robot vacuums for large apartments, courtesy of the 5200mAh lithium-ion battery. It offers up to 180 minutes of runtime when in low power mode. Obviously, the runtime will dip slightly in high power modes.
When it comes to power management, the T8 can dock automatically to recharge and will resume cleaning after the 6 hours of recharge time.
The T8 AIVI is similar to the T8. It also comes with a 5200mAh lithium-ion battery that offers 180 minutes of runtime.
This robot will recharge and resume cleaning automatically. The recharge time is around 6 hours.
There is no winner in this round, too, as both the T8 and T8 AIVI come with the same battery and power management features.
The Deebot T8 is a smart robot vacuum with three cleaning modes; Auto, Area, and Custom. Besides, it allows users to set cleaning schedules for seven days straight.
The T8 is also a connected robot vacuum courtesy of 2.4GHz WiFi. It can be operated remotely by syncing it with the ECOVACS Home App. Besides mobile app operation, the T8 is compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant.
The T8 AIVI is also a smart robot vacuum with three cleaning modes; Auto, Area, and Custom, alongside the Schedule function. The robot also supports 2.4GHz WiFi for mobile app operation and voice assistant compatibility, just like the T8.
The camera also comes in handy when you want to monitor your home in real-time, even though it doesn’t save footage and the viewing angle is narrow.
The Deebot T8 AIVI is the best bang for the buck in this round as it comes with a camera for remote monitoring.
The Deebot T8 AIVI is the best option here as it comes with 10 disposable cleaning clothes while the T8 comes with just 5.
The Deebot T8 excelled in our cleaning tests. It managed to vacuum all the dirt we threw on its path on hardwood floors. However, the performance on carpets was not up to the mark, especially on the high pile carpets.
It picked up the large debris, but for the fine dirt such as flour, it struggled a bit, leaving behind some patches. But all the same, it did a great job. We also tested the mopping performance, and the performance was also satisfactory.
The Deebot T8 AIVI also performed well in all our tests. It picked up all the dirt and debris on hardwood floors. But just like the T8, it struggled on high pile carpets, leaving some patches of flour.
To say the least, it’s not the best robot vacuum for carpets, particularly thick carpets. We also did some mopping tests, and we are glad it managed to clear all the messes we put on its path.

Maintenance
Lift the robot and inspect the brush for any stuck-on dirt or hair tangles. If there’s any dirt or obstruction, remove the brush and clean it. Also, inspect the brush for any signs of wear and tear and get a replacement. Expect wear and tear after 8-12 months.
Here again, lift the robot vacuum and inspect whether there is any stuck-on dirt or hair tangles. The T8 AIVI’s brush will also wear down after 8-12 months. Once it wears out, buy a replacement.
Lift the robot and spin the brush. It should spin freely. Remove anything that could cause it not to spin. The spinning side brushes require replacement after 8-12 months.
The T8 AIVI’s spinning side brushes should also be inspected from time to time to ensure they are spinning freely. They also need to be replaced after 8-12 months.
Twice a month, remove the filter and tap it inside the bin to remove excess dirt and dust. Then, rinse it using cold water, and let it dry before putting it back. Replace filters after 3-4 months.
The T8 AIVI’s filters also need maintenance at least twice a month. Remove the filter, tap it in the trash can, rinse it using cold water and let it dry before putting it back. Replacement is required after 3-4 months.
The T8’s bin needs to be emptied often, preferably after each cleaning session. For those with the Auto Empty Station. There’s no need to worry about emptying the bin daily. Instead, you will need to remove the disposable bag and put in a new bag. The Auto Empty Station can hold up to 30 days of dirt.
The T8 AIVI also requires manual bin emptying at least after each cleaning session. There’s no daily maintenance required for those with the Auto Empty Station. Just insert the disposable bag in the Auto Empty Station, and the robot will do the emptying for at least 30 days.
