In today’s review, we’ve got a tussle between Shark Detect Pro vs Shark Matrix, which are two revolutionary cleaners from the renowned American brand SharkNinja, Inc. Many buyers are torn between the two, and that’s why we made this exclusive review to find out the difference, and, the ultimate dust and pet hair buster.

Shark Detect Pro RV2820AE and Shark Matrix RV2310AE are among the bestsellers and share a lot as they are multi-surface cleaners with some of the industry’s best features, including automatic self-emptying so you won’t bother emptying them now and then like most of their predecessors.

But of course, we’ve got a lot of differences that explain why one, the Detective Pro, is more expensive than its mate, the Matrix

Important

For the quick skimmer, the main difference between the Detective Pro and Matrix is the additional cleaning technologies of the former, better navigation and mapping, and a larger auto empty station capacity.

For the finer details on how the duo square it out, brace up for a mode in-depth analysis.

Shark Detect Pro vs Matrix Put To The Test

In this segment, I’ll be stripping the two with the aim of finding out how they fair in terms of design, cleaning performance, and more. I’ll also be sharing our cleaning test results and findings on navigation, especially obstacle avoidance, and breaking down for you all the details you need to know before adding any of the two to your cart.

Let’s jump into it.

But before you go, here’s a spoiler. None of the two can vacuum and this is a major letdown, considering most of the new cleaners on the market are 2-in-1 combos, something that can save you a few hundred bucks you could have otherwise splashed on a robot mop. But just to mention, we’ve got plenty of 2-in-1 Shark robot vacuums, including the Shark RV2610WA AI Ultra.

1. Design and Aesthetics
round-shaped

Things haven’t changed in terms of the design, as the Detect Pro still sports a futuristic design boasting a sleek and flashy interface and a low profile and compact design.

You can expect it to go under beds and other furniture with low clearance.

The robot has a round design but does a great job on wall edges courtesy of a new feature that we’ll be talking about later on (EdgeDetect).

round-shaped

The Shark Matrix is also a round-shaped cleaner.

Like its predecessors, it doesn’t work very well on wall edges and deep corners, but you can still expect it to go under sofas, beds, kickstands, and beneath many other pieces of furniture where dirt hides.

You’ll also like the stylish design of the robot together with the compact station.

The two have a circular design and are compact, and the build quality is also excellent, so your cat’s paws and accidents when moving the robot from the main floor to the basement shouldn’t worry you. But you’d definitely want to lean on the Detect Pro, which has EdgeDetect that delivers 50% better wedge and corner cleaning.

I’ll explain why.

This feature detects edges and enhances suction ensuring the dirt that settles on wall edges and deep corners where the brushes can’t reach are not left behind. As for the Matrix, there’s no way to step up suction, and the circular design means the dirt on wall edges and corners won’t be picked up effectively.

2. Cleaning Orientation
vacuum only

Shark Detect Pro is a versatile cleaner designed for multisurface cleaning, so whether your entire floor is of hardwood or you have combined hard floors and carpets, it fits the bill.

It’s the ultimate partner that will leave your floor spic and span. The 3 stage cleaning system ensures all kinds of dirt is picked up, from fine dust and debris to large particles, as large as Cheerios.

For pet lovers grappling with stubborn cat and dog hairs, this robot is still up to the task.

vacuum only

The Matrix is not different as it’s also designed for hard floors, including tile, hardwood, linoleum, concrete, and so on, and will vacuum low and high pile carpets and area rugs satisfactorily.

This robot can also be entrusted as a pet hair robot vacuum, so whether you have a cat or a heavy shedding dog breed like my Akita or Norwegian Forest Cat, pet hair will no longer be the bummer in your relationship with your furry friends.

Shark Detect Pro and Matrix are versatile cleaners for hard floors and carpets and can also be the ultimate solution for your hair problems.

3. Vacuuming Performance
high

Shark Detect Pro uses a 3-stage system where dirt is loosened, swept to the vacuum vent, and sucked into the bin.

To guarantee that all dirt will be picked, it packs a powerful motor and has an optimized design that offers consistent suction that leaves nothing to chance, from the fine dust to sand pebbles, be it on hard floors or carpets.

One of the unique features is DirtDetect, which works as Roombas Dirt Detect to find spots with concentrated dirt and switches to Spot mode while boosting suction.

There’s also a feature similar to Roomba CarpetBoost that automatically detects carpets and enhances vacuum power.

average

Shark RV2310AE Matrix works like any other robot by sucking up all kinds of debris into the onboard bin courtesy of the high suction power.

One thing we noted is that the Matrix has slightly lower suction even though the exact numbers have not been disclosed, and besides, the operation noise is higher.

But the good thing is there are adjustable suction levels, so you can customize cleaning depending on the mess at hand.

As far as vacuuming performance is concerned, the two Shark vacuums excel, but as I mentioned, the Shark Detect Pro has slightly better suction power, translating into better performance, as we’ll see in our cleaning test results. It also comes with a feature that detects edges and steps up suction, obliterating and scattering any dirt lying on the wall edges, baseboards, and corners.

4. Mopping Performance
No

The Shark Detect Pro doesn’t have a mopping function.

No

The Matrix also lacks mopping.

Unfortunately, none of these two robot vacuums comes with a mopping performance. At least for the Matrix, it’s an entry-level model, so even if it lacks mopping, the price is fair, but for the Detect Pro, which costs well over $500, it should have this extra to match models in its price range.

5. Navigation
LiDAR + NeverStuck

I was particularly interested in how the new Detect Pro performed, considering it has been hyped as a dirt detective, and the earlier models were not so convincing as far as navigation and obstacle avoidance are concerned.

The Detective Pro is powered by 360° LiDAR navigation and a smart sensor at the front for enhancing accuracy and precision. Don’t forget it also comes with obstacle and cliff detection sensors and a retractable bumper.

We put several obstacles on the floor, including shoes, headphones, dummy dog poop, USB cable, and socks, and we’re glad it was able to detect all the items and change direction, though it did go over dog poop once. But we believe it was confused by the carpet’s brown color which matches the poop color.

Also worth mentioning is DirtDetect, which detects spots with high dirt concentration; EdgeDetect, which has a laser on the side to detect walls; and FloorDetect, which detects floors and adjusts suction. Last is NeverStuck Technology, which enables the robot to lift and lower down so it doesn’t get stuck somewhere.

LiDAR

One of the differences between Shark Detect Pro and Matrix is the navigation; the Matrix doesn’t come with the smart 3D sensor at the front, but it still deploys laser-based navigation.

Considering there’s no front-facing laser, anything that is below the laser range is hardly detected unless it’s a large enough object that won’t miss the obstacle detection sensors.

I already have an experience with the Matrix’s navigation, and to say the least, there’s a lot of room for improvement as it bumped into many small obstacles less than 2 inches high, including USB cables, and worse enough, its obstacle avoidance is poor as it roved on the dummy dog poop.

Here, Shark still has a lot of work to do, but for the purpose of this comparison, the new Dirt Detect wins the bout as its front-facing sensor gives it better obstacle avoidance. Furthermore, the Detect Pro has additional features for detecting dirt, wedges, and floor surfaces for suction adjustment.

6. Mapping
Smart

You’ve got a smart robot vacuum in the Shark Detect Pro, as it leverages an intelligent system to create hyper-accurate maps of your home faster and more accurately than your typical robot vacuum.

Interestingly, it can create and save multiple maps, so if you have more than one floor, it fits the bill.

Besides, with the maps saved, you get a lot of customized cleaning features, for example, room recognition, so after meals, you can clean the kitchen only instead of the whole house for just the dog feeding area.

We’ve also got boundary marking, which allows you to set limits, for example, on carpeted areas.

Smart

You get pretty much the same mapping features with the Shark Matrix, so you can have a map for the main floor, basement, attic, or any other additional floor.

One great feature worth mentioning is the exclusive Matrix technology, which cleans in a precision grid pattern as opposed to the single row cleaning paths, ensuring entire-level cleaning, especially in large apartments and high-traffic rooms.

The Matrix also gives you the convenience of managing cleaning preferences so you can clean a specific room or target a specific spot. There’s also No Go Zones for areas you deem dangerous or unnecessary for the robot to reach.

The Shark Detect Pro and Matrix are both smart robot vacuums that create and save multiple maps of your home and have pretty convenient features for a more customized cleaning alongside digital barriers for containment. They do a great job in expansive homes and high-traffic zones, so whether you go for the Detect Pro or Matrix, you still get the same mapping features.

7. Filtration
true-HEPA

The Shark Detect Pro is the type of robot vacuum that doesn’t just deal with dirt on the floor but also allergens and other contaminants in the atmosphere.

It features a true-HEPA onboard filter that captures 99.97% of allergens, such as pollen and dust mites, and filters down to 0.3 microns. This filter needs periodic maintenance, at least once a month, and a replacement after 3-4 months.

Besides, we’ve got a true HEPA Self Empty Base filter that is just as efficient as the onboard bin filter and ensures that all allergens captured remain in the bin for the entire duration before it’s emptied.

Interestingly, there’s also an air freshener that releases a fresh fragrance when the robot is being emptied.

true-HEPA

Shark Matrix can also help you keep away the common allergy triggers so you don’t stick around with antihistamines and handkerchiefs.

It’s equipped with two filter systems, one on the onboard bin and another on the Empty Box, which I must mention has an anti-allergen seal just like the Detect Pro.

These are genuine HEPA filters for efficiency and do require frequent maintenance, at least once a month, and of course, a genuine replacement when worn out.

It’s a great deal that Shark opts for true HEPA filters while most other brands, including Roomba and Roborock, don’t use true HEPA filters. While the Detect Pro and Matrix have genuine filters, the Detect Pro takes the crown with its innovative Odor Neutralizer, but I don’t find it very practical if it only releases the freshness when emptying the onboard bin.

8. Bin System
Auto empty

The Detect Pro has a sizable bin on the robot that detaches easily, but you don’t need to, as this is a self-emptying robot vacuum. On the station, there’s a mechanism that sucks all the dirt from the onboard bin into the larger bin.

For the record, the dustbin is a single compartment like the onboard bin and not a disposable dust bag, as we have seen in models such as Roborocks and Deebots. This is great as you don’t have to incur the costs of dustbags.

The Shark Detect station bin is large enough to hold dirt for up to 60 days and comes with a freshener function that produces a fresh fragrance when the bin is being emptied.

Auto empty

Shark Matrix is also a self-emptying robot vacuum, so you shouldn’t worry about the onboard bin capacity, though it’s large enough to hold dirt for up to a week, those long hairs, coffee, cereal, and so on.

Here again, the robot’s bin is emptied when it docks after cleaning, but the onboard bin can hold dirt for up to 45 days.

But for me, I prefer emptying it earlier now that this cleaner’s bin doesn’t require dustbags, just a simple emptying and washing.

In this round, it’s hard to call a winner as both models have large bins and can empty themselves automatically. But the newer Detect Pro has a slight edge as it can hold dirt for 15 more days and comes with a clever air freshener that breathes a fresh fragrance into your atmosphere.

9. Brush System
2

Under the hood, the Detective Pro packs a spiral main brush that is responsible for loosening embedded dirt and lifting it ready for suctioning into the main bin.

The brush has been specialized to prevent tangling, so even the long hairs of my dog couldn’t jam it as they jam the typical robot vacuums that have no tangle-free brushes.

On the side is a spinning brush designed for the wall edges and baseboards, among other spots that the main brush can’t access.

2

There’s no difference in the Matrix’s brush system, as it also consists of a main brush and a secondary brush.

The main brush is still the antitangle spiral brush that is effective at sweeping and loosening dirt, while the spinning side brush sweeps the edges.

The two come with similar features and are self-cleaning brushrolls. However, there’s room for improvement when it comes to quality as the Shark brushes have a shorter life cycle, so you’ll have to get a replacement after 2 months or so, but as you may be aware, a quality brush should serve you for 6 to 8 months before it wears out completely.

10. Battery and Runtime
1.5 hours

Shark Detect Pro comes with a lithium-ion battery whose capacity can power the robot for around 90 minutes when in low power settings, but when on carpets, I realized the runtime dropped.

This is the same case if it takes too long on the wall edges as more suction is pumped out.

The robot is intelligent enough to recharge and resume, but there’s no quick charge function, so you’ll have to wait for the entire 4 hours to recharge.

1.5 hours

The Matrix also relies on a rechargeable battery that offers an average of 90 minutes runtime, but just like Detect Pro, when high power mode is activated on carpets or wall edges, the runtime drops, but still, it can finish cleaning an average apartment on a single charge.

Auto-recharge and resume functions are still available.

This round ends in a draw as the two vacuums have the same battery and power management features.

11. Smart Features and Convenience
App, Voice

Shark Detect Pro comes with a variety of automation and convenience features, including schedule cleaning and cleaning customization.

Additionally, it’s compatible with 2.4GHz WiFi for mobile app operation via the Shark HOME App, but the app features are limited compared to what the big brands, for example, Roborock and Roomba, offer. Voice control is also supported via Alexa or Assistant.

App, Voice

As one of the top-of-the-range models, the Shark Matrix also allows for automation, as you can set preferred cleaning sessions and even decide where to clean and when.

Besides, it comes with 2.4GHz WiFi compatibility, which facilitates remote mobile app operation and voice assistant compatibility.

This round has no outright winner as both models are well endowed in their own capacity. But I’d like to mention that Shark apps don’t offer as many features as their counterparts.

12. Warranty and Aftersales
1-year

Shark Detect Pro is covered by a one-year warranty, but make sure to read the terms and conditions so you don’t void it as many do and later complain that the company is not to be trusted.

You can get help on the company website or by telephone and email, and replacement parts and supplies are available.

1-year

The Matrix also tags along with a one-year warranty. Support is available on the company websites alongside other resources from 3rd parties.

Last, you can buy filters, brushes, odor pellets, and other supplies on Amazon, both original and generic.

This round has nothing much to talk about as the two are from the same brand, meaning everything as far as warranty and aftersales are concerned is standard.

13. What’s in the Box?

The Shark Detect Pro comes with the Detect Pro robot, XL self-empty base, odor pack, side brushes, and documentation.

As for Matrix, you get the Matrix robot, an empty base, a side brush, and documentation.

None of the two models has the edge here as they come with all the necessary components and accessories.

Wrapping Up

That’s the end of this Shark Detect Pro vs. Matrix comparison review, and as you have seen, the Detect Pro is the best choice as it has better cleaning technologies and a much advanced navigation and mapping system with exclusive features such as NeverStuck Technology, EdgeDetect, and FloorDetect and more so, its XL station can hold more dirt. There’s also an Odor Neutralizer that always keeps your ambiance fresh. But still, the Matrix is a worthy choice if you’re on a budget and you don’t find the Detect Pro’s bells and whistles practical. Check out all the latest Shark deals and discounts today!
