Cookie Monster

Category: Rolling
Progress: In Progress
Cost: 200.00
Time to Build: 1week

Cookie Monster was built for desktop experimentation.  He has a wired USB interface to a computer and a ac-dc wired power source.

He has a Parallax, Inc. Basic Stamp II controller on a J2RScientific.com J2R controller board. He has 2 Parallax, Inc. PING sonar units; one pointed downward to look for edges of desk and one overtype the cookie monster stuffed eyes.  He also has a Cds photo cell mounted to the top of his head.  He has a USB webcam connected to a tiny USB hub mounted on the back of cookie monster.  A serial-to-usb interface is also connected between the hub and the J2R controller board.

Cookie monster has 2 Parallax, Inc. continuous rotation servos for drive motors, a caster wheel and a BudgetRobotics.com Big Gripper servo controller gripper mounted inside the stuffed animal body to make the arms close and arm together.

Inside the body some of the stuffing was removed to make from for wires and the Big Gripper and some wooden dowl rods were attached to the sides of the Big Gripper and ran down through the feet and mounted to the base where the drive servos and control electronics are mounted.

Cookie Monster's fancy clothes were provided by an Ebay auction for toy dog (Yorkie-Poo) sized tux.  They were perfect and velco in the back.  It added a fancy look for a couple of dollars.  I sometimes call him Nick-Nack in reference to the Roger Moore James Bond movie from the 70's called "The Man With The Golden Gun".
